北欧最古のフェスティヴァルと言われている「ルイスロック」1970年8月22日公演を極上サウンドボードで収録。（ピッチもジャストに修正してあります。）終始安定したこれ以上はない理想的な音質で、ショーの全貌をたっぷりと堪能する事ができます。(惜しい事にThe Time Machineは11：01で切れてしまいます）セット・リスト的には「ヴァレンタイン組曲」が入っていないのが残念なところですが、ファン満足の定番曲満載のとても魅力的な内容になっています。この時期ならではのブルース色が濃く加味された印象を持つサウンドの中、とにかくハイズマンの渾身の叩きまくりプレイが際立っており、ど迫力なクリスのソウルフルなボーカルと相俟ってとんでもなく熱いアンサンブルを繰り広げています。もちろんディックのマルチリードの威力を遺憾なく発揮したソロ・プレイの数々も聴きどころになっています。コロシアム自体、ライヴ音源そのものがとても少ない（特に７０年）ので、今回のアイテムは本当に貴重なものと言えるでしょう。（69年のモントルー・ジャズ・フェスの音源も期待したいところですが・・・） 荒削りながらも尋常ではない、至る所で弾き出されるハイテンションなスーパー・バトルの数々。初期コロシアムの唯一無二の凄まじいパフォーマンスをたっぷりとご堪能下さい。

コロシアムのライヴ・ブートと言えば、1969年の初期ライヴか、1971年のライヴが定番で、何故か真ん中の1970年のライヴ音源があまり出ていなかったが、このたび1970年8月22日の「Ruisrock Festival」を収録したライヴ音源が出た。しかも極上のサウンドボード音源であり、音質は良くてステレオ分離も良いので、ファンは“買い”である。
名盤「COLOSSEUM LIVE」の冒頭でもお馴染みのパワー・テンションなRope Ladder To The Moonは、コロシアムというバンドの素晴らしさをのっけから伝えてくれる。ジョン・ハイズマンのソリッドなドラム、深さと温かみのあるデイヴ・グリーンスレイドのオルガン、切れ味鋭いクレム・クレムソンのギター、マーク・クラークの凶暴なベース、メンバー全員の楽器が主張しあいながらも邪魔になっていない。クリス・ファーロウの走り気味のヴォーカルがソウルフルで生々しく、ライヴならではの醍醐味が味わえる。ディック・ヘクストール・スミスの情熱のサックス・ソロの後には、日本公演では「Lost Angeles」の中に取り入れられていたクレム・クレムソンの例のクラプトン・フレーズがインタープレイの中で飛び出してくるのが面白い。The Time Machineでは「The Machine Demands Another Sacrifice」がプロローグに挿入されている。歌はクレム。ジョンのドラムソロは華麗かつダイナミックで、当時はジョン・ボーナムやカーマイン・アピスと並ぶ程のドラマーだったことがスタジオ盤よりも更に良く分かる素晴らしいソロを聴かせてくれる。Downhill And Shadowsはディックとクレムの熱いアンサンブルが聴けるが、クリスのブルージーなヴォーカルが本当の聴きどころ。コロシアム・ナンバーの中でも「ヴァレンタイン組曲」を除けば一番ドラマチックかつエモーショナルなLost Angelesは、デイヴのオルガン・ソロとクレムの流れるようなギターソロが素晴らしい。クレムの流れるようなギターソロが素晴らしい。クレムのお遊びプレイはRope Ladder To The Moon でやっているので、こちらではひたすら華麗なソロを弾きまくるクリスのギターの音色にうっとりしてしまうだろう。凄腕ミュージシャンたちが演奏するには贅沢なポピュラーソングWalking In The Parkは観客喝采で盛り上がる。元はＦＭ放送音源だが、ピッチが修正されているのが嬉しい。全てが名演奏で、聴き終えた後に高い満足感が残る好盤である。
