幻のアルバム「THE TIES THAT BIND」の初回リリース分には1981年のヨーロッパ・ツアーの音源を収録したCD-R「ZURICH 1981 3 Recorder Mix」が付属します。紆余曲折あって完成した「THE RIVER」リリース後、スプリングスティーンとE・ストリート・バンドは初の大々的なヨーロッパ・ツアーを敢行します。その前半戦とも言える4月11日のチューリッヒ公演はアナログ時代からいくつかのオーディエンス録音が音盤化されていたものですが、CDでリリースされていてもっとも音質的に優れていた「HALLENSTADION ’81」をベースとし、二枚のディスクに収める上で不完全となっていた部分を「HALLENSTADION ZURICH」、「LIVE IN ZURICH」という二枚のLPタイトルで補ってコンプリートに仕立てたものです。
コンプリートと言えば聞こえが良いのですが、それを編集したファンのセンスが何とも雑で（苦笑）、まったくシームレスではありません。単に音源を切り取って合わせた…レベルの仕上がりなのです。よって曲間を機に音質がガラリと変わってしまうのは当たり前、それどころか「Fire」や「Rosalita」などでは演奏の最中でも音源が雑に切り替わってしまうので、今時珍しいほどラフなエディット感には、聴いていると思わず苦笑いせざるを得ません。
しかし幸いなことに、この程度の編集が限界だったファンが音質まで手を加えることはなく（笑）三種類の音源それぞれのナチュラルな音質が保たれている点がこのタイトルの魅力なのです。まさに懐かしいアナログチックな音。それらの中で一番オンな音像は「HALLENSTADION ’81」なのですが、他の音源もこの時代のレベルとしては十分に優秀なものですので、最近手に入り辛くなってしまった1981年ヨーロッパ・ツアーが手頃に楽しめるアイテムとしては悪くありません。それにコンプリートでも二枚のディスクで聴ける手軽さも魅力です！
