“THE UPPER SHOW” The first release worth comes with a CD-R that was recorded the sound check that was conducted before the same day of the live start. Current and the difference that is able to participate in the sound check before live was almost gone, of ’88 at that time Dylan had tried a variety of songs and also participate in sound check (mainly cover). And I think because there was a buddy that you can trust that GE · Smith, this period of Dylan was liked that show off even it on tried a variety of cover songs at sound check in live production. Had been mainly played in the sound check of the day in “Give My Love To Rose” of Johnny Cash, this song there was that it was actually played in ’88 live. Indeed the sound check seems sight such as scene that is played in “What’d I Say” and in the past live there is that it was playing “I’m Movin ‘On” is installation state of no song of further Ray Charles but, Dylan in “Give My Love To Rose” of earlier is what is very interesting how you are singing quite seriously.
However, this is a sound check, but fans who have stuck from the front curtain of live venue is the audience recording of form which picked up the sound that came out leakage to the outside, the sound quality is severe (the second time such as “Give My ~” is you heard until the sound the plane passing through) There is a thing. 「THE UPPER SHOW」初回リリース分には同日のライブ開始前に行われたサウンドチェックを録音したCD-Rが付属します。ライブ前のサウンドチェックに参加することがほとんどなくなった現在と違い、88年当時のディランはサウンドチェックにも参加して様々な曲（主にカバー）を試していました。しかもGE・スミスという信頼できる相棒がいたからでしょうか、この時期のディランはサウンドチェックで様々なカバー曲を試した上でそれをライブ本番でも披露することを好んでいました。この日のサウンドチェックで主に演奏されていたのはジョニー・キャッシュの「Give My Love To Rose」で、この曲は実際に88年のライブで演奏されたことがありました。さらにレイ・チャールズの「What’d I Say」や過去のライブで演奏していたことがある「I’m Movin’ On」が歌なしのインスト状態で演奏される場面などはいかにもサウンドチェックらしい光景ですが、先の「Give My Love To Rose」においてディランはかなり真剣に歌っている様子がとても面白いものです。
　ただしこのサウンドチェックですが、ライブの開演前から会場に張り付いていたファンが外に漏れ出てきた音を拾った形のオーディエンス録音です、音質は厳しい（二回目の「Give My～」などは飛行機が通過する音まで聞こえます）ものがあります。よってリリースされる機会もないままファンに知られていたレア音源でした。当店としてもこれをプレスCDに収めるのには厳しいものがあります。しかしドキュメントとして貴重な音源であることに変わりはなく、初回リリース分のみのCD-Rと言う形でリリースさせることとなりました。是非ライブ本編と合わせた完璧なコレクションとして、初回盤での入手をおすすめします。
