しかもこの独自マスターですが、どちらも完全に同質な録音状態ということに驚かされます。そもそもRAHと言えば東京ドームなどとはまた違ったエコーがこだまする会場であり、ディランの言葉を借りれば「シェイクスピアの劇に使う古い会場」だった訳です。よって録音が一歩間違えれば距離感とエコーによってボケボケの音像になりかねないのですが、今回の音源をぜひヘッドフォンで聴いてみてください、エコーが追いやられてディランの声がオンに捉えられた驚きの音像なのです。しかも絹のように繊細な音質は現在のディラン・バンドが奏でるアコースティック・ギターとキーボード主体のサウンドにも正に理想的なもの。ディランの声の生々しいバランスと出しゃばらない演奏の妙をじっくりと味わってください。
秋のツアーではセットリストが完全固定という、今までのディランのライブの構成を覆したパターンで行われたことも話題となりました。そこに加えて間に休憩を加えた構成は連日で高品位なパフォーマンスを展開する結果となりました。しかしRAH初日に関してはそんな展開の中でもサプライズがあり、最新アルバム「TEMPEST」からの「Roll On, John」が最後に演奏されたのです。ディランがジョン・レノンに捧げたというこの曲はRAHの前に行われたブラックプール公演の最終日で初めてライブ演奏が実現し、二回目の演奏がここで披露されました。ゆっくりとした演奏と力強いディランの歌は既にレギュラー・レパートリーなのではと錯覚するほどの名演で、これは間違いなく来日公演でも演奏されることでしょう。そうしたサプライズなどもあって評価の高い初日ですが、最終日のじっくりと聴かせるパフォーマンスがまた絶品でした。現在の高品位なディランのライブを見事な音質で捉えたタイトルというのはもちろんですが、来たる来日公演に向けてのサンプラーとしてもファンに注目されるべきタイトルの限定リリースをどうぞお見逃しなく！
