本作「DEVIL IN DRAG」は、「TECHNICAL Ecstasy」のリリースに伴う1977年ヨーロッパ・ツアーより初日となった4月5日のフランス・パリ”パビリオン・デ・パリス”公演を、聴く者にマスター・クオリティを確信させる高い鮮度のオーディエンス録音で収録しています（曲間で聴こえるテーパー周囲の観客の話し声までリアルです）。長期に渡ったアメリカツアーから、’77年2月のイギリスツアーを経て、約1ヶ月間行われたこのヨーロッパツアーが「TECHNICAL Ecstasy」ツアーを締めくくる形となりました。長いツアーの最後期だけあって、バンドの演奏は新曲でも完全にこなれており、おなじみのクラシック・ナンバー同様に安心して聴き込めます。そのステージにおけるダイナミックな演奏を大変オンなサウンドで捉えた録音は圧倒的で、オープニングの「Symptom Of The Universe」や「Snowblind」などは問答無用の大迫力！　抜群のダイレクト感で収録された「War Pigs」に「Black Sabbath」は、ヨーロッパツアー中でも「KILLING YOURSELF TO DIE」で知られる4月21日のスウェーデン・ランド公演にも負けない聴き応えです。新曲「Gypsy」や「Dirty Women」もライン音源のようなまとまりで再現され、貴重なテイクを安定感たっぷりに楽しめます。これらの曲におけるオジーの歌メロディや展開は、’80年以降のソロとしてのオジーをダイレクトに感じさせる場面があり、聴けば聴くほど興味深くなります。アイオミの粘り気とメタリックなエッジを兼ね備えたギター・トーン、ビル・ワードの破天荒なドラムパターンも、後期オリジナルSABBATHらしい演奏を劇的に盛り上げています。ライヴの後半、「Dirty Woman」から続くジャムパート及びメドレーでは、バンドの代表曲が次から次へと切れ目なく取り上げられます。特に「Electric Funeral」からの流れは圧巻！　ギーザー・バトラーのベースが、彼以外の誰にも出し得ない独特の音色で奏でられ「N.I.B.」そして「Iron Man」へと突き進む構成は、この時期ならではのド迫力です！

なお、本作の元となったマスターは90分カセットで録音されており、ディスク1最後の「Rock ‘N’ Roll Doctor」が一分ほどで終了し（全体で46分目）、折り返し部分に当たるギターソロ（ディスク2冒頭）が途中からカットインする欠点はあります。しかしそれが逆に「ライヴ・テープらしさ」を生々しく浮き彫りにしており、聴き手は”秘蔵のテープ”を聴くような気持ちで演奏を楽しめるでしょう。全編が力強いサウンドで貫かれた荒々しく生々しいパフォーマンスは「これぞ後期オリジナルSABBATH！」とマニアも唸る凄まじさ。未聴のファンにはぜひ聴いて頂きたい、’77年ヨーロッパツアー屈指の名録音です！
