・11月17日：日本青年館　　【本作】

このように初来日は全６公演。そのうち、本作が録音されたのは「1980年11月17日：日本青年館公演」です。東京公演は４回ありましたが、ほとんどが中野サンプラザ。日本青年館だったのは、本作の「11月17日」だけでした。また、この日はマニア間で“東京ナンバー１”としても知られる名演でもあります。実のところ、東京公演は４回もありながら時差ボケやトニー・アイオミの食中毒など、何かしらのミソが付いてしまった。総ての環境がそろい、“本来の絶好調BLACK SABBATH”を聴かせてくれたのは、この「11月17日」だけだったのです。
そんな“東京で唯一の本調子ライヴ”を収めたタイトルはいくつもありますが、その大半は悪魔「Buer（ブエル）」の名を冠したキニー製オーディエンスLP「BUER ALBUM」を起源としたもの。後年に発掘された別録音も「BUER ALBUM」を超えられておらず、トレーダー間で出回る「A+」マスターも、結局は極上状態の「BUER ALBUM」から起こされている。新作に登場するたび「どれだけBUER ALBUMに近いジェネか」「どこまで状態の良いBUER ALBUMを見つけられるか」を競い合ってきたわけです。それだけ「BUER ALBUM」は、大定番・決定録音の極みだったわけですが、本作に収められている音は、まさに「BUER ALBUM」制作前の大本マスター。これ以上ジェネを遡ることは不可能な、源流の中の源流。「BUER ALBUM」をも飛び越え、日本青年館の空気を直に吸い込んできたカセットそのものなのです！
実際、そのサウンドは驚異的な極上っぷり。「サウンドボードのようにクリア」と言ってしまうのはカンタンですが、そう表現しただけではもったいない。味気ないライン録音とは違う客席の臨場感を感じさせながら、その空間が岩清水のように澄み渡っている。こんこんと湧き出ながら、塵ひとつ、濁りひとり感じさせない透明感。「DEFINITIVE BUDOKAN 1980」「DEFINITIVE BUDOKAN 1980 2ND NIGHT」が大・大好評を頂いている真っ最中にぶっちゃけるのも気が引けますが、あの衝撃サウンドですらここまでではなかった。「BUER ALBUM」からして、とんでもないオーディエンス録音で伝説となってきたわけですが、それすら遙かに超える音に出会えるとは。しかも、アナログの収録時間に制限のあった「BUER ALBUM」ではカットされていたMCや曲間の歓声も１音残らず完全復刻。今まで聴いたこともなかったショウ全体のムードがシームレスに繋がっています。この日のベストなのは当然として、ここまで凄いとジャパンツアー全公演でも、いや、全世界の“HEAVEN AND HELL TOUR 1980”録音でもナンバー１かも知れない………。
ただし、100％隅から隅まで完全無欠かというと、そうはいきませんでした。35年の月日によって「War Pigs」の３分台、「Black Sabbath」の８分台、「Heaven And Hell」の開始前20秒ほどがわずかに劣化してしまったのです。その劣化感のレベルは「ステレオ感がちょっと歪むな」といった感じ。実は、極上状態の「BUER ALBUM」も入手し、劣化パートの補填も試みてはみたのですが、アナログLPを経由した“濁り”が感じられ、大本カセットのサウンドが汚されてしまいました。つまり、「A+」サウンドをもってしても“汚れ”に感じられるほど、本作のクリア・サウンドはピュア。そして、歪みとは言っても、「A+」サウンドで補填するよりは、そのままの方が良いレベルでしかありません。しかも、その歪みも２枚組5,318秒の中の117秒の話。それ以外の97.8％は、眉目麗しく、体験したことすらない“クリアSABBATHの世界”が広がり続けます。

東京ナンバー１の名演を現代まで語り継いできた伝統のキニー録音。大本カセットからの復刻シリーズも、第３弾にして最高傑作が誕生してしまいました。本作を手にして下さるのは、いつまでもロニーを忘れられない方、様式美BLACK SABBATHをこよなく愛してくださる方でしょう。しかし、本作に詰まっているのは、そんな35年前を懐かしむために聴く音楽ではありません。80年代初期にこれほどの客席録音が可能だった日本、それを世界に誇る大傑作です。澄み渡る大気の中に躍動する、漆黒の安息日。その黒光りの美しさをプレス２CDに詰め込んで、今週末あなたのご自宅へお届けいたします。
