7月1日はヴィンテージアナログLP”BUDOKAN 1966″(SAVAGE RECORDS)からのリマスター収録。

元々、「来日公演に関しては、丁寧なマスタリングのアイテムが過去に殆ど存在しない」(企画者談)とのことで持ちこまれた本企画であり、ここでは必要最小限のマスタリングを施しCD化。
6月30日に関しては全くいじる必要はなく、音量の調整のみ行い、音色を変えるイコライジング等は一切なしでCD化。過去のアイテムでは過剰なヒスリダクション処理や歪みの増す音圧稼ぎ、不自然にリバーブ処理されゆがめられた疑似ステレオ・アイテムなどばかりであり、意外と素直なサウンドで聞けるアイテムがありませんでした。ここでは音量調整時にレベルオーバーなどの不具合がないよう注意してマスタリングを施しました。
近年話題のHMC盤CDを比較すると、トラック1のイントロ部分が若干短く編集されており、CDタイム0:03付近にクロスフェード処理がなされていることが分かり、また終演後の歓声部分はビデオのクレジットの都合で同じ歓声の音声がさりげなく3回繰り返すことで「長く」収録されているのも特徴です。
また音声そのものもHMCに比べ、想像以上に元々ビデオ制作時にリミッターが(あくまでアナログ的に。昨今のパソコンソフト上のリミッターとは違う)使用されているのが分かります。

7月1日アフタヌーンショーはヴィンテージ・アナログ盤からの採録。過去にもこの7.1公演は多数リリースされていますが、恐らく既発ベストはこのアナログ盤と1997年にリリースされたQUATER APPLEレーベルの”WELCOME THE BEATLES”(CD)(※QA盤には96年盤もありそれは違う)ではないでしょうか。当時コレクター盤掲載雑誌として幅を利かせたGOLD WAX誌では全くQAレーベルのアイテムを紹介した記事がなかったと思います(確信なし)。また、今とは異なり当時はインターネットも黎明期であり、概ね雑誌情報により評価が左右される時代でもあり、この97年QA盤の存在を知らない人もいるのではないでしょうか。他にも良盤は眠っているのかも知れませんが、今回の企画でマスター素材にしたのはSAVAGE RECORDS盤であり、音質の評価の参考にしたのがQAであります。
このアナログ盤のCD化にあたりスクラッチノイズを一個一個ピンポイントで除去、ほぼノイズレスで鑑賞頂けます。また当アナログ盤では2箇所の曲間欠落があり、その箇所を先述QA盤で補填しました。場所はIf I Needed SomeoneとDay Tripperの曲間、そしてレコードの面替わりに当たるI Feel Fine〜Yesterday間のそれぞれ数秒です。
驚くほどに当アナログ盤と補填に使用したQA盤の音質は似ており、補填箇所の繋ぎは全く分からないほどになっております。
また、全体の音質を話題のHMC盤と比較しても、決して劣っていると言うことはなく、むしろHMC盤が高域寄り過ぎで低域不足に思えてくるから不思議なもので、このアナログチックながら低音の出た厚みのある本アイテムのサウンドの方が耳に馴染む、という方もいるのではないでしょうか。

ジャケットは、アナログLP時代の有名盤”WELCOME THE BEATLES”(TB-76057)をモチーフにしました。

ビートルズが日本に来日してから50年が過ぎ、現在までに様々なアイテムがリリースされました。
中には「これ以上はもうない！」と言わしめる程の高音質・高画質の武道館ライブの映像も発掘され「今までどこにあった！」と衝撃を受けたのは、つい最近も記憶に新しいところですよね。

今でこそ「映像であたりまえに観れる日本公演」ですが、かつては映像ではなく音源が主流であり、武道館の写真が載っている雑誌などを眺めながら、「こう唄ってたのかな」と想像をしていたのではないでしょうか？

その音源が主流だった頃、数多くの武道館音源が出回っていました。高音質の物からコピーを繰り返された劣悪音質のものまで多くありました。買っては(これは音質悪いな・・・)と頭を悩ませていたビートルマニアの方は多いのではないですか？そのころのもやもやを、「映像が観れる時代となった今、あえてライブの音源で」50周年(は過ぎてしまいましたが)のアニバーサリーに目線を向けたいと思います！
