マニア必携Mクローデルより、またまたビートルズの初登場ライヴ音源がリリース！！！ しかも音質、演奏ともに最高の初期のステージが、50年の時を経て発掘！ 初めて聴いたときは、あまりの衝撃に声が出ませんでした。初期の雰囲気を残している勢いある演奏、そしてこの高音質。 毎回Mクローデルの発掘音源の時と同じ、まだこんな音源が眠っていたのかという思いで胸がいっぱいです。

まず注目は驚きの音質です。通常のサウンドボードとは異なり、ヴォーカル・マイクから直結で収録したような高音質で、 曲中や曲間の呟きまで鮮明に聞こえる、非常に生々しい音質なのです。 ジョンとリンゴのマイクがオフ気味ですが、演奏中に時折挿入される合いの手やおふざけなど、 他の音源では例がないくらい、はっきりと収録されているのです。

そして演奏も、これまた素晴らしいもので、1964年7月、最初の大規模なアメリカン・ツアーを行なう直前の、 短期UK＆スゥエーデン・ツアーということで、 今までこのツアーからはテレビ収録用のブラックプールのみ聴くことができましたが、 純粋なライヴ・ステージとしては本作が初めて。 世界にブレイクする寸前の貴重なライヴなのです。

■ I SAW HER STANDING THERE
勢いが尋常ではなく、聴いた瞬間に名演だと感じられる。 ベースがぶんぶん唸り、リンゴが叩きまくる、まさに絶頂期の演奏という感じ。 ポールの歌唱もコブシを効かせた素晴らしいもの。

■ YOU CAN’T DO THAT
ジョンのヴォーカルがオフ気味で、その分コーラスがはっきり聴き取れる。 ポールとジョージがかなりしっかりコーラスを入れているのが伺える。 しかもポールの悪ノリ具合は笑っちゃうくらいで、シ～ィの部分ではオペラ調で歌い、さらにベイベィ～と加えてみたり、 コーラスの合間にホゥ！ホゥ！と合いの手を入れたりと、演奏を聴かずに騒いでいるだけの客席をからかっているかのようなケッサクなライヴ・テイク。

■ SHE LOVES YOU
そしてこのライヴで最もケッサクなのがこのSHE LOVES YOUである。 イントロコーラスでのヤケクソ具合は、今まで聴いた事のないもので、シーラブジューギャーギャーギャーといった、 はっきりいってムチャクチャな歌い方（笑） 後年の大きな会場ではけして出来ない「おふざけ感」がここでも発揮されている。

■ ALL MY LOVING
たからかなカウントに誘われて始まるポールの落ち着いた歌唱が印象的である。 ジョンは忙しいギターに専念しているため、コーラスはジョージが入れているが、 マイクがオフ気味なためポールのハモリ・コーラスが目立つ。 それにしても伸びのある歌声は若さゆえの特権なのだなと改めて感じさせられる。

■ ROLL OVER BEETHOVEN
この曲はジョージの独壇場である。 起伏が少ないながらジョンやポールに劣らない力強いはっきりとした歌い方で、 後年のジョージには見られない絶叫系ヴォーカルが堪能できる。 アクセントを随所に入れたリンゴのドラミングも名演。

■ CAN’T BUY ME LOVE
これもまたポールの力強いヴォーカル炸裂の凄まじいバージョン。 センテンスで切らず、一筆書きのような、まるで糸を引くような歌い回しが素晴らしい。 間奏のギターソロもまるでエフェクトを使ったような厚い音で収録されている。

■ I WANNA BE YOUR MAN
ご存知リンゴのヴォーカル曲だけに、 ジョンとポールがいつもふざけたコーラスを入れる曲である。 曲中にもかかわらず後ろでヘ～イ！と合いの手を入れたり、 ポールも一緒にオフマイクで「アゥオナビヨーマン！」と歌ったり、 とにかく大騒ぎである。

本作は、この初登場ストックホルム公演連続公演の初日を、オリジナル・バージョンと、 補正を施したリマスター・バージョンの2バージョンを収録。 さらに後半には、同じツアーから唯一の音源である、7月19日ブラックプールでのライヴを収録。この2公演が、この短期UK＆スウェーデン・ツアーで残された全てなのです！！
