「ザ・ビートルズ・アンソロジー」の登場までは、ビートルズ映像史の定番にして最優良のタイトルであった1982年リリースの「コンプリート・ビートルズ」。日本語ナレーションものとしては、1983年末に『ビートルズのすべて』というタイトルで国内放送され、以来、数回にわたって再放送されてきまたが、本作は、1993年3月末に某国営放送が「不滅のミュージック・シーン」というタイトルで、ビートルズ、プレスリー、ディラン、ストーンズと、連続4夜に渡って放送したものの第一夜を収録しています。冒頭とエンディングの特別対話を含んでの 95分ということで、本来2時間弱の内容の「コンプリート・ビートルズ」が70分強に編集されており、その辺のバッサリ編集具合もファンには興味深いのではないでしょうか。（実際見ていると、この要点を押さえた70分版というのも、ダラダラせずちょうど良いのかもと思ってしまいます。）冒頭の独自のイントロとSomethingをフィーチャーしたアウトロ、、日本人（当然か）ゲストによるYesterdayカバー演奏、そしてビートルズ来日時のカメラマンを務めた著名な写真家のインタビューやゲストとのトークタイムのイントロ＆アウトロと、独自の演出・編集もコアなファンには堪らないのでしょうか。DVD の28分目でいきなり「NHKニュース速報、JR西日本労 午前2時 スト中止命令」とテロップがでるところは内容に時代を感じさせますが、当時、ビデオで録画していたファンには、この思いも寄らないテロップに大いにがっかりさせられたのではないでしょうか。内容はファンにとってはあまりにお馴染みのモノばかりで今更感もあるのかもしれませんが、今や廃盤久しく、更には今後再放送されることはないであろうこの「コンプリート・ビートルズ」は、私たち昭和世代の洋楽ファンには懐かしく愛着のあるオンリーワンなプログラムのひとつ。（実際、更に膨大な内容のアンソロジー・シリーズも良いですが、こういった手軽に、そして適度に深くビートルズの歴史を楽しめる当時のソフトと言うのは意外に便利な存在でした。）この 1993年テレビ放送版は、ファンはコレクションとして入手する価値は絶対にあると思います。最後に画質ですが、提供者は数週間前のギフトリリースでファンを驚愕させたディランの「THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY CONCERT CELEBRATION」（これも92年放送でしたね）と、同じ方で画質は抜群のクオリティ（当然のことながら、1983年テレビ放送版を遥かに上回るクオリティです。）。ファンならば、永遠のコレクションに加えて欲しい、実に素晴らしい一枚です。ゴールデン・ウィークは是非、この一枚をお楽しみ下さい。
