13枚目のアルバム「XXX」リリースに伴う2002年ヨーロッパの最中、フランスはパリにて、ドラマーのフランク・ベアードが急性盲腸炎で緊急手術を行うというアクシデントが発生します。しかしながらツアーはフランクのドラム・テクニシャン、ジョン・ダグラスがドラマーを務めることで、キャンセルすることなく続行されました。ジョンが代役ドラムを務めたのは10月14日のパリ、15日のドイツはザールブリュッケン、16日のベルギーはブリュッセルの3日間でしたが、本盤はそのジョンがドラムを務めた初日公演のパリでのライブを、関係者流出のDATマスターより約1時間35分に渡って超高音質ステレオ・サウンドボード録音で完全収録しています。30年以上に渡る長いZZ TOPの活動の中で、メンバーの代役を立てて演奏するというのは初めてのことで、非常に貴重な記録と言えますが、ジョンはZZ TOPの楽曲を熟知しており、終始、危なげの無いドラムプレイでショウを盛りたててます。ビリーはたまにフランス語でリラックスムードで観客に話しかけますが、特別なメンバー紹介は無く、ドラマーの代役に関しても言及していません。実際、普通に聴いているだけでは、フランクが普通に叩いているのと何ら変わらない、いつもの完璧なレベルのZZ TOPライブを聴くことができます。トレーダー間には、この日の「超高音質」「サウンドボードレベル」のオーディエンス録音が存在するとのことですが、そちらのヴァージョンは、ショウ後半のGimme All Your Lovin’ の終わりとSharp Dressed Manにテープチェンジの欠落がありますが、本盤は曲間も含め、その部分もノンカットで収録されているので、明らかに別マスターです。またそのAUD録音の説明でGimme All Your Lovin’ で「観客の大合唱や拍手が収録されている」とありますが、本盤は完全なライン録音なので、曲中では観客の反応は全く聞こえません。Tush 終演後は、TELEXと言うバンドの「Exercise Is Good For You 」というエレクトリックポップのような曲がそのままライン録音で収録されてしまっています。熱心なZZ TOPサイトでも、この日のライブは絶賛されており、特にこの日のLegsは最良のヴァージョンと高い評価を受けています。おそらくビリーもダスティもフランク欠場をカバーするために、いつも以上に気合いの入った演奏を心掛けていたのでないでしょうか。それがコンサートの成功の一つの要因になったのではないかと思われます。とにかく、演奏・音質最高レベルの1枚であり、本来ならプレスCDでのリリースが相応しい程の大別格ライブ盤です。全てのロック・ファンに聴いて頂きたい最高・最強の1枚です。
