それまでツアーの終了後に置き土産的なタイミングでリリースされるのが当たり前だったストーンズのライブ・アルバム。ところが同アルバムに関してはツアーの合間でリリースされるという画期的なタイミング。しかし早くリリースされた代償とでも言うべきか、わずかLP一枚というボリュームには驚かされたもの。ボブ・クリアマウンテンによるミックスの見事な編集の甲斐もあり、確かに聴きやすくまとめられていたのは事実。とはいえ二時間に及んだ実際のショーを考えれば、マニアには大きな不満が残る内容だったのもまた事実でしょう。

そうしたマニアの気持ちを汲み入れた訳でもないでしょうが、アルバムのリリースから二か月以上が経過した8月28日、アメリカのラジオ番組「SUPERGROUPS IN CONCERT」においてローリング・スペシャルにおいて、実際のショーのボリュームに匹敵する81年ツアーのライブ音源が放送されています。
この放送が実は「STILL LIFE」を丸ごと取り込んだ状態で、いくつかの曲にオーバーダビングがほどこされた状態までもそのままだったことは同アルバムの拡大編集盤、今ならデラックス・エディションとでも呼びたくなるような仕上がりとなっていたのです。おまけに曲間ではミックスを担当したクリアマウンテンやツアーを仕切ったビル・グレアム、そしてツアーのサポート・メンバーだったサックスのアーニー・ワッツのインタビューが挿入された形での放送でした。
曲順が実際のライブと違っていたとはいえ「STILL LIFE」よりはるかに充実した内容はマニアの溜飲を下げるに十分なものでしたが、一方で思わぬ弊害が起きています。それは放送時に全体がピッチを高められてしまっていたということ。これによって放送を待ってましたとばかりに捉えたブートレグもまたピッチが高いままで音盤化され続けてしまう。この放送からは「TIME IS ON OUR SIDE」や「RIDE LIKE THE WIND」といった懐かしのアイテムが生み出されたのですが、それらも一貫してピッチが高かった。それどころか、これらのタイトルと内容を継承したCDバージョンですらピッチが高いままだったのです。

そこで今回は「SUPERGROUPS IN CONCERT」のオリジナル放送用LPから丁寧にCD化。収録に当たって、さすがにCMはカットしていますが、それ以外はインタビューやDJのアナウンスなども完全収録かつ原盤LPの音質を尊重したナチュラルな状態で収録。それでいてスクラッチ・ノイズは一切入らないクリーンな状態もストレスなく聴き込める重要な要素。もっとも肝心な点としては、ようやく正確なピッチにアジャストした上での限定プレスCDリリースとなっている点でしょう。いくら音質が素晴らしい放送音源でもピッチが高いままでは楽しめません。
そしてもっともリアルタイムで放送された81年ツアー音源の番組を丸ごと収録してみせたというドキュメント性の高さ。過去には当店からも「ANOTHER STILL LIFE」で81年ツアーにおける一連の放送用音源をまとめたことがありましたが、当時の番組をそのまま収録したというのは意外とアイテムが少ないのです。そこから伝わってくる82年放送番組というリアルタイムな空気感、そして当時ストーンズとクリアマウンテンがラジオ用に作り上げた音源をそのまま真空パックしたLPのリアルな音を正確なピッチでじっくりとお楽しみください。これが数々のアイテムの元になった歴史的な放送だ！
