2014年も押し迫った今週、ピンク・フロイドのブートレッグCDに存在したミッシング・ピースに眩しい輝きを放つ超優良音源が緊急登場致します。シドが居た60年代末期、『原子心母』から『アニマルズ』の70年代、そして『壁』と『鬱』の80年代には、それぞれの時代を象徴するプレス盤タイトルが存在しますが、フロイドのブートレッグCDで大きな謎だったのが1994年、即ち” 対 / Division Bell “ツアーのタイトルです。あれだけ巨大なツアーを北米・欧州を中心に行っていながら、｢この時代の決定盤はこれ！」と言えるマスターピースが存在していない、フロイドブート史におけるエアポケットのような時期なのです。何故こういう事態になっているのか不思議で仕方ないのですが、理由のひとつは公式盤『p・u・l・s・e』がある為でしょう。しかしどのバンドでもそうである様に長いツアーは全てが同じ内容でプログラムが組まれる訳ではなく、1stレグ、2ndレグと進むうちに公演内容をテコ入れするのが普通です。しかも公式盤『p・u・l・s・e』は94年8月17日～10月21日までのライブ音源からほぼ一曲毎に違う日の演奏を選んで当時のセット通りに組み立て直した”編集版”ですから、いかにサウンドの凄い収録音とはいえ純粋に一公演を愉しめるライブ盤とは言い難いものがあります。だからブートレッグ音源で94年Division Bellツアーを聴くとなれば、それは当然ツギハギではない未編集で完全収録されているもの、欲を言えば『p・u・l・s・e』収録のセットとは違なるもの、そしてもちろん出来る限り音質極上の決定版となるに相応しいものを持っていたいという願望が沸き起こるものですが、それをパーフェクトに叶えてくれるものがこれなのです。即ち、完全収録にして『p・u・l・s・e』とは違うセットで組まれたうえ『p・u・l・s・e』に未収の曲も聴ける、Division Bellツアーで唯一の流出サウンドボード音源となる本作なのです!!

収録されているのは1994年Division Bellに伴うヨーロッパ・ツアーより、9月13日イタリアはトリノ公演を超高音質ステレオ・サウンドボード録音で2時間34分に渡って完全収録したものです。ここまで優れたライン録音が今までプレスCD化されていなったのは実に摩訶不思議ですが、音源自体は過去に何度か登場しています。オリジナル・リリースはAyanamiレーベルが2001年に出した『TORINO 1994 SOUNDBOARD (Ayanami-115)』で、これがブートレッグ初登場でした。次は2009年6月にリリースされた『TORINO 1994 (Amity 093)』があり、これは映像も付いたアッパー版でのリリースだった事を御記憶の方も居られるでしょう。そして先週、2014年12月19日に当店のギフト盤としてリリースされた『TORINO 1994 (※非売品・既に品切れです)』が挙げられます。これら3つの既発盤に共通しているのは、

(1)その全てが既に廃盤であること
(2)その全てがCD-R仕様であること
(3)それら全ての「One Of These Days」に音飛びが存在していること

・・という点でしょう。しかし今週末にリリースされる本作は各既発盤に存在したこれら3つのウィークポイントを全てパーフェクトにクリアした、まさにマスタークオリティを感じさせる決定版となっているのです!!

そんな94年唯一のサウンドボードの本作は音質も最高ですが、収録内容も逸品揃いの名公演です。まず” ギルモア・フロイド “が唯一演奏したシド在籍時の楽曲「Astronomy Domine」はこの日も20年以上の時を超えて原点へ立ち戻った凄まじい演奏で、序盤から圧倒的な音の押し込みと音楽的拡散が瑞々しいサウンドで一気に広がります。2分07秒から鋭く入ってゆくギターの音像もグッと浮き出た状態でキーボードに繋いでおり、浮遊感溢れるボーカルラインとの対比も最高です。「What Do You Want From Me」では浮き出たギターの音色とそれをバックアップするコーラスの色彩感が抜群の音質で報告され、そのヴォーカリゼイションが楽曲の奥深い部分をゆっくりと動かしてゆく様子が確実に聴いて取れると思います。これはギルモアの魅力的な歌唱が色濃く滲み出た「On The Turning Away」も同様で、表面的な変化や取り繕いではなく音楽の芯の部分が豊かに表情変化する事を、この録音はタフで透明感のある音像が克明に伝えてくれるのです。公式盤『p・u・l・s・e』未収録の「A Great Day For Freedom」では演奏音の立ち上がりの鋭さと重厚感に深い感銘を受けられるでしょう。中間部でコーラスに包まれながらギターが舞う特徴的なシーンも並々ならぬ迫力と高い解像度で再生されますので、この様子にも是非御注目下さい。「One Of These Days」は各既発盤で後半の6分17秒で音飛びがありましたが、本作ではその部分でも途切れる事無く完璧に聴き通せる様になっています。このため、潤い豊かで瞬発力の高いサウンドだけでなく収録クオリティとしてのアップグレード感もお感じ戴けるでしょう。「Shine On You Crazy Diamond」では序盤の静音部分に圧倒的な透明感が宿っている事にお気付きになると思います。音の感触も極めて質感の高いサウンドで演奏が記録されている為、曲の主題として置かれる3分47秒からの4つの音階が震えながら立ち上がってくる鮮烈さに圧倒されるに違いありません。立体的なアンサンブルが最高の音質で飛び出し、想像力を刺激し続ける魅惑の13分間です。

ディスク2も冒頭「Breathe」からエッジの効いたサウンドがグワッと立ち上がり、ディスク1同様の極上サウンドボードでショウ・エンドまでお愉しみ戴けるディスクです。当時アルバムからのセカンド・シングルとなった「High Hopes」はこの公演でも前曲「Breathe (Reprise)」の終盤00分54秒からあの印象的な鐘の音が挿入されたメドレーとして厳かに始まりますが、このスペイシーな音像が上下左右の音域一杯に広がる様子はまさに”Division Bellそのもの”を体現させるものとなっており、これはディスク2屈指の聴きどころと言えるでしょう。「Us And Them」はギルモアとバックの演奏の融合感がクローズアップされた音像として進行し、その収録音から受ける感動もひとしおです。4分31秒～34秒で入るアクセントの押し込みによる特徴的な表情付けも絶品ですし、サックスの質感も抜群です。「Money」では冒頭レジスターのSEが左右から飛来し、ここでもステレオ・サウンドボードの威力が発揮されます。2分28秒ほかで時折り入るドラムのオカズが音像上方から入ってきたり、中盤で展開するコーラスの膨らみやサックスとのインタープレイも潤い豊かなサウンドが近い位置から出音しますので、それら質の高いサウンドと演奏が絡み合う音像に悶絶される筈です。また6分05秒付近から暫くの間、膜鳴楽器” カズー “を使った演奏を聴く事ができるのもトピックスでしょう。「Another Brick In The Wall Part 2」では” 壁 “特有のあのダークなルーズさを見事に捉えた収録音が魅力です。ここは比較的サウンドのエッジが消えたまろやかな音として出ているのですが、それが艶やかに伸びながら曲が進行してゆく様子に思わず聴き惚れてしまう筈です。「Hey You」ではアルペジオと歌唱ラインの対旋律が美しく録れており、響きとハーモニーを重視したフロイドの精神がここでも息衝いている事をお感じになると思います。最後の歌詞”♪ we fall…”がディレイ処理で約40秒間(!!)も延々と場に残ってゆく様子も消え入る弱音まで聴き取れ、これもサウンドボードならではの威力を感じるシーンです。「Run Like Hell」は会場に設置された音群移動装置で挿入される足音や、自動車のタイヤが鳴るスキール音も右チャンネルから左チャンネルへ、そして折り返して再び右へ戻るというステレオ効果がこの録音にもあり、音響的にも聴き応えのあるショウ・エンドとなっています。

フロイドがその歴史にピリオドを打った2014年であればこそ、ブートレッグに於ける本年最後のフロイドのタイトルも『THE ENDLESS RIVER』と” 対 “を為す、『THE DIVISION BELL』を偲ぶもの以外は考えられません。過剰なイコライズやリマスター、果ては都合の良い編集が一切施されていない唯一の94年ライン録音となる本作は、94年当時のフロイドのライブを正確に、そして透明度抜群の間近なサウンドで肉迫出来る唯一のタイトルです。また現存する最高の音質で残された94年公演と真正面から向き合う事は、最新公演があれば恐らく一番近かったであろう演奏と向き合う事とも言えますから、それは今や” 永遠 “にその機会を失ってしまったTHE ENDLESS RIVERツアーに想いを馳せる事にも通ずる筈です。2014年もいよいよ押し迫る今週末は是非本作と共に時間を共有し、歴史を閉じたフロイドの想い出と共に年越しをお迎え下さい。高解像度で浮かび上がる94年の響きの彼方から、通り過ぎてきたバンドの歴史や時代の音色が走馬灯の様に駆け抜け、その切ない想いに胸を熱くして戴ける逸品タイトルです。
