今週のSigmaからは1988年のピンク・フロイドを更に深く理解するに相応しい優秀なタイトルが登場します! 先々週にリリースされた『NASSAU COLISEUM 1988 (Sigma 120)』は、88年唯一の極上流出サウンドボード音源を現代の最新リマスター技術で刷新した音質パーフェクトな決定盤タイトルとなっていたのは未だ記憶に新しいところでしょう。しかしそうなると” オーディエンス録音 “として88年フロイドを最高値で捉えた音源も気になるところです。今週末はそんな88年フロイドの魅力を観客席から極上の音質で捉え、この時期のパフォーマンスの魅力を完璧に記録した実況録音が緊急登場致します。それは88年7月28日のフランスはリールで行われた” ヴィルヌーヴ＝ダスク “公演の1stジェネレーション・テープをマスター使用したもので、2.0chのオーディエンス収録ながらもまるでサラウンドで聴いているかのような立体感のある近い音像で捉えたノーカット3枚組プレスCD、しかも当日のサウンドチェックの様子まで収録した完全版なのです!!

この音源は過去に旧HIGHLANDレーベルより『DELUSIONS OF MATURITY (HL513/514)』としてリリースされていた事もあるのですが、それは2ndジェネ以降と思われるマスターを使用しているうえピッチも曖昧であり、また無理矢理2CDに収めてあった事でいささか窮屈な印象を与えていた事も事実です。しかし最近このタイトルに使用された音源に1stジェネレーションのロングヴァージョンが発見され、マニアの間で大きな話題となりました。本作は先日Sigmaが導入した2015年最新機材を使用してその1stジェネ最長版を丁寧に精査し、部分的に狂いの生じていたピッチ補正や原音に影響を与えない厳密なノイズリダクション、そして音像の輪郭と質感を高める為に最良のイコライズを施す事で現状考えられる最高のブラッシュアップ効果を引き出した、まさに珠玉のリマスター・サウンドを収録しています。また最長版でもありますから1stジェネのマスターに記録されていた全ての音を余裕の3CDでプレス収録しているうえ、ボーナストラックとして当日のサウンドチェックの様子を4曲分含めてあり、こちらも非常に生々しい内容となっている事も見逃せません!!

演奏内容も極上で、聴き逃せない要所がふんだんにある事も特筆されます。例えばこの日の「Shine On You…」の立ち上がりは他の公演よりも濃密な色彩感が漂い、ギルモアがいつもより積極的にギターを弾いている感があり、力と創意に充ちた演奏である事が序盤から伝わってくると思います。熱唱するボーカルラインの近さやキーボードの出音、コーラスの音の出方も全く澱みが無く、トータルな音像がタフで芯のあるベストサウンドとしてそこにある事が直感でお分り戴けるでしょう。「Yet Another Movie」は冒頭に入る低音域がブレずに耳に届き、曲が動き出してからの骨格を感じさせる演奏音も極上です。終盤6分01秒付近から入ってゆくコーダに向けた上昇音型も場内一杯に立体的な響きを拡散してゆく様子が克明に伝わってきますが、ここはディスク3-(4)で聴けるサウンドチェックでの同シーン(5分23秒～)を聴くと、そのリハでは何らかの理由で出音を欠いていたキーボードの低音旋律がしっかり演奏されている事も御確認戴けます。「A New Machine Part 1」はあのエコー感がたまらない魅力で記録されており、これが「Terminal Frost」に受け継がれて更なる展開を遂げてゆく様子は鳥肌モノです。特に中盤から入るサックスの音色はとても威力のある音で現れますし、その周囲で鳴っている微かなキーボードの装飾音、ナレーションSE、そして目立ち過ぎないギター等がどれも粒揃いのサウンドとして、あるべき位置に完璧にある事がお分り戴ける筈です。「Sorrow」は中盤から終曲まで延々と歌い続ける饒舌なギターがこの日の演奏を盛り立てていますが、このシーンは同時にサウンドボードではないが故の、伸びる音像の魅力が非常に色濃く出ています。「The Dogs Of War」ではミドルテンポの中から生まれるマッシヴな音の瞬発力がこれまで以上に浮き彫りになっており、熱く歌い上げるギルモアとそれに合いの手として入ってくるコーラス、サックスのキャッチボール感がこの日どれだけ密度の高いものであったか改めて噛み締めて戴けるでしょう。

「One Of These Days」ではこの日、意図的なのかミスなのか分りませんが冒頭のベースが別の音階からスタートしているの大きな特徴で、そのトーンの違いが生々しいサウンドでいきなり飛び出してきます。中盤からギターが歌い出す様子も高音域と低音域のコントラストがこれまで以上に明瞭に出ていますので是非チェックしてみて下さい。そして驚くのが「Wish You Were Here」から更に向上する音の近さです。恐らくこの曲が始まる直前から収録位置を若干変えており(※前曲「The Great Gig In The Sky」の終曲後4分46秒で音像が変わるのが分かります)、ここからディスクエンドまで音質が飛躍的に向上してゆきます。「Welcome To The Machine」は序盤に左チャンネル側から出てくるブザー音、フロントから厳かに浮かび上がってくる主旋律の重量感がこれまで見知っていたサウンドから格段に向上しており、後半展開部(6分04秒～)からの音像はまさに驚嘆の音楽と音像が宿っている事を存分に感じて戴けるでしょう。「Us And Them」もボーカルラインの残響や芯の入った演奏音の力強さが最高値で息衝いており、これを聴いてしまうと既発盤での音像がどれだけ密度に欠けたものだったかが分かると思いますし、ここでの演奏がどれほど生命力に充ちたものだったのか、その真の威力を実感して戴ける筈です。「Money」ではフロントを取る楽器の多様さやコーラス、メインボーカルなど低音域から高音域まで広く使うサウンドが走馬灯の様に現れますが、それらが極上のサウンドで繰り広がります。中でもサックスの鈍い金管音が場の空気をどれだけ揺らしていたかが克明に報告され、ベースのブリブリした響きの質感の深さやキーボードの硬質な装飾音がストレートに現れる様子に1stジェネの威力を感じない方は居ないでしょう。「Comfortably Numb」では濡れそぼった湿り気のある音が圧倒的解像度で立ち上がり、進行するメロディの多重構造の中に美しい陰影が幾つも生まれている事が容易に御理解戴けると思います。4分48秒付近から突入してゆく展開部はこの日もギルモアがギターを随所で泣かせており、空間を切り裂く様な旋律の入れ方と巧みな音の切り方、そして音の休ませ方の粋が最高値で胸に突き刺さります。

ディスク3はアンコールと当日のサウンドチェックを4トラック分収録しています。「One Slip」は中盤ベースソロでの打弦のアタック感が素晴らしい響きで再生され、力に充ちたタフな演奏が情報量豊かな高密度のサウンドで耳に届きます。「Run Like Hell」は演奏音の見通しの良さと音抜けの良さが魅力です。低音の程好い重量感とメロディラインの鮮やかな音色が、弾みながらショウ・エンドに向かって跳躍してゆく様子が抜群の音質でお愉しみ下さい。トラック(3)からはボーナストラックで、当日のサウンドチェックの様子を収録しています。録音は「Learning To Fly」の終曲付近から始まり、終曲後にベースやドラムのチェックが続いているのがまず御確認戴けます。「Yet Another Movie」は序盤に軽いギターチェック(※恐らくギルモアのもの)が入ってから本編のリハに突入しており、本番同様の綿密な演奏をしているのが印象的です。またディスク1-(4)の同曲の箇所でも書きましたが、ここは終盤5分23秒からの低音旋律の抜けた展開が聴きモノとなっていますので是非チェックしてみて下さい。それとこのトラック(3)～(6)で面白いのは時折り機材の運搬車(?)と思われる走行音が左右へ動く音が聞こえ、場の生々しい臨場感が間近で感じられる事です。また何故か犬の鳴き声が所々で聞こえる事もトピックスで、これは「The Dogs Of War」冒頭のSEチェックの様にも思えるのですが、(3)や(4)では左チャンネルからやや遠めで聞こえているのに対して(5)では右側のかなり近いところから鳴き声が聞こえてくる為、もしかするとその場に居た本物の犬なのかもしれません。ただ運搬車の走行音にしろ犬にしろ、曲のその位置には通常まず入る筈が無い音が含まれていることで、この日の音楽が創られてゆく様子を傍で観察する視点・目線がより間近なプライヴェート感を増しているのは魅力と言えましょう。

アルバム『鬱 / A MOMENTARY LAPSE OF REASON』に伴う当時のツアー音源は数多く存在しますが、その中でも88年の夏はやはり特別な時期だったと思います。その特別な時期の優れた公演が1stジェネを使用した最長版として秀逸な音質で完全収録されているだけでなく、その日のサウンドチェックの様子まで聴けるのですから本作の価値は計り知れません。今後まず確実にフロイド88年夏のユーロツアーを代表するタイトルになるであろうこの日の公演は当Sigmaとしてもこれが初リリースとなりますが、これは88年のフロイドがいつも最高の状態で傍にある喜びで充たしてくれるでしょう。限定ナンバリング入りステッカー付き・美麗なピクチャーディスク仕様で今週末、あの夏のフロイドがまたひとつ不滅の決定盤として甦ります!!
