Honest talk, 1989 Japan tour was not blessed with good recording throughout all the performances, but in this context this work is a different exception. Realistic enthusiasm at the time of opening and between songs is undoubtedly audience recording, but the audience is overwhelmed when furious performance starts. 【Disk 1: August 11】
Disk 1 which contained the first day of Yokohama Arena 2DAYS is a super real album approaching the chest. Anyway, from the recording position, the center seat in the front row of the arena. Furiously close musical tones are powerfully powerful live albums. Normally, it is no wonder that the sound comes around from the left and right PA when it is in the center of the front row and it becomes a sound with poor resolution. 【Disk 2: August 12】
Disk 2 which contained the last day on behalf is a totally different beautiful live album. Although this recording position is the front row of the stand seat, the details of the musical tones are as clear as the first row of disk 1 and the top two. Perhaps thought to be offsetting distance feeling by adjusting the equipment setting, but this is also another meaning, Kinney Magic. It is a sound that is reminiscent of the high technical strength.
It is actually cheers that the position is eloquently described than clear musical tones. In Disk 1, it was “dense enthusiasm” enough to hear imminent tweets, but the enthusiasm of Disk 2 is a true sense of scale. この時の来日は音楽イベント「KIRIN “BEER’S NEW GIGS” ’89」に参加するためのものであり、『GUITAR SHOP』に伴うツアーのキックオフ日程でもありました。まずは、その来日日程から確認してみましょう。

以上、全６公演。本来は７公演が予定されていましたが、「８月６日公演」は台風13号の上陸に伴って中止となりました。本作は、その中でもファイナルとなった横浜アリーナ公演「８月11日」をディスク１、「８月12日」をディスク２に配した２枚組です。
そんな本作最大のポイントは、何と言ってもキニーのマジック・サウンド。正直な話、1989年のジャパンツアーは全公演を通してあまり良い録音に恵まれていなかったのですが、そんな中で本作は別格中の別格。開演時や曲間に沸き立つリアルな熱狂は間違いなくオーディエンス録音なのですが、猛烈な演奏が始まるや観客は圧倒。エッジが切り立ち、ディテールも超鮮明な演奏が総てを塗りつぶすライン録音さながらの音世界が広がるのです。ただし、ディスク１・２は同会場とは言え、別ポジションの別公演。それぞれに個性もありますので、詳しくご紹介しましょう。

【ディスク１：８月11日】
横浜アリーナ２DAYSの初日を収めたディスク１は、胸に迫る超リアル・アルバム。何しろ、録音ポジションからしてアリーナ最前列のセンター席。猛烈に間近な楽音が強力にド迫力のライヴアルバムなのです。普通、最前列の中央となると左右のPAからサウンドが回り込み、解像度の悪いサウンドになっても不思議ではありません。しかし、そうしたウィークポイントがまるでなく、ステレオの均整とド直球サウンドという旨みだけがたっぷりと詰まっている。まさにキニー・マジックの面目躍如たる名録音なのです。そんな楽音に加え、もう１つ最前感覚を描き出しているのが観客の熱狂。ジェフ・ベックを愛する日本人ですから演奏を邪魔するような無粋な事はしないのですが、曲間に思わず沸き立つ歓喜の声が素晴らしい。日本語で「真っ正面だよ、真っ正面！」「もうヘロヘロだよ……」等々、聴いているだけで興奮と喜びが乗り移ってくる猛烈な臨場感なのです。
そんなサウンドで描かれるショウも凄まじい。特にジェフはキレッキレでして、当時から「東日本のベスト公演だ！」「いや、ツアー全部でもトップじゃないか？」等々の評判が立ったのも納得の名演ぶり。「People Get Ready」の前では日本語で「アナタハサイコ！」と言い出すほど上機嫌なノリノリのライヴを聴かせてくれます。

【ディスク２：８月12日】
代わっての最終日を収めたディスク２は、ひと味違いトータルに美しいライヴアルバム。こちらの録音ポジションはスタンド席の最前列なのですが、楽音の詳細ぶりは最前列のディスク１と甲乙付けがたいほどクリア。恐らく機材セッティングの調整で距離感を相殺していると考えられますが、これもまた別の意味でキニー・マジック。技術力の高さを思い知らされるサウンドです。
クリアな楽音よりも雄弁にポジションを物語っているのが、実は歓声。ディスク１では間近のつぶやきが聴き取れるほど“濃密な熱狂”だったわけですが、ディスク２の熱狂は真逆のスケール感。真っ直ぐに届く楽音の下に大歓声の絨毯が広がり、喝采が湯気のように立ち上ってくる。その感覚は公式ライヴアルバムのようでもあり、コンサート全体をトータルに感じられるスペクタクル録音なのです。
そんなサウンドで描かれる“GUITAR SHOPトリオ”もまた、トータル感が素晴らしい。MCもゴキゲンだったディスク１に対し、こちらはMCもなくひたすら演奏に集中。１音１音がクッキリと描かれるクリアっぷりもさることながら、３人が交わす呼吸感がリアルに伝わってくるのです。そして、そのアンサンブルがまた凄い。ベースレスの特殊な編成にも関わらず不足感がまるでなく、テリー・ポジオもトニー・ハイマスも鬼神のよう。そして、ジェフも真正面からぶつかり、半歩も引かない。ジェフは現在に至るまで素晴らしいギターを聴かせ続けていますが、やはり自在とは言っても少しずつ“型”のようなものにハマッていったのは否めない。しかし、この時はそんなそぶりもまったくなく、１フレーズ１フレーズからして猛烈に才気走り、ギターという楽器の可能性を更に広げるかのように多彩。そんなジェフを弾き出す２人も含め、“GUITAR SHOPトリオ”の真価をスタジオ作以上の鮮やかで叩きつけてくるライヴアルバムなのです。

観客の心理にもシンクロする熱いディスク１。“GUITAR SHOPトリオ”の芯の実力をトータルに思い知らされるディスク２。同会場のキニー録音でありながら、それぞれにサウンドも演奏も表情の違う２枚組です。これまであまり音源の恵まれなかった“1989年”のイメージを根底から覆す世界初公開ライヴアルバム。今週末、全霊の自信をもってあなたのお手元にお届けいたします。

This volume press 2CD “YOKOHAMA 1989” gouged out the truth of “GUITAR SHOP TRIO” at KINNY MAGIC. It is a historical big excavation album that reverses the image of “1989” which was a sound source unfriendly area. To that bonus, we will give you valuable images to convey the scene of the scene.
This film was filmed “August 12, 1989: Yokohama Arena” performance. Although the main press 2CD has recorded Yokohama 2DAYS completely, this work is recording the last day of the Japan tour with two kinds of images. First of all it’s the main audience shot. On the left side of the stage (Terry · Bojio side) Overlooking shots from the 2nd floor seats, the full show is recorded. The image quality is a little sweet “It is not clear to the hands and facial expressions”, but the unique staging brewed by “GUITAR SHOP TRIO” can be witnessed with shocks. キニー・マジックで“GUITAR SHOPトリオ”の真実をえぐり出した本編プレス２CD『YOKOHAMA 1989』。音源不遇地帯だった“1989年”のイメージを覆す歴史的な大発掘アルバムです。そのボーナスには、現場の“光景”を伝える貴重映像をお贈りいたします。
本作が撮影されたのは「1989年８月12日：横浜アリーナ」公演。本編プレス２CDは横浜２DAYSを完全収録していましたが、本作はジャパンツアー最終日を２種の映像で記録しています。まず登場するのはメインのオーディエンス・ショット。ステージ左側（テリー・ボジオ側）２階席からの見下ろしショットで、ショウ全編を収録しています。画質はやや甘く「手元や表情までクッキリ」とは言えないのですが、“GUITAR SHOPトリオ”の醸す独特なステージングはシッカリと目撃できる。定位置から動かないボジオとトニー・ハイマスが要塞のように背後にそびえ、その前方でジェフ独りが派手なアクションでギターを操る。まさに1989年ならではの光景なのです。
さらに、この日だけの必見ポイントなのが「Freeway Jam」と「Going Down」。前者ではSTEVE LUKATHER BANDのウォーレン・ハムが飛び入りし、ハーモニカでの共演を披露する。このシーンは本編プレス２CDでも聞けるのですが、ウォーレンを紹介するMCがないためにやや分かりづらかった。しかし、光景ならムードまでばっちり。どうもウォーレンはジェフと共演したいがために押しかけだったそうですが、そのせいかステージを分け合ってはいても特に仲良く絡むでもなく、火花散るバトルを演じるわけでもない。なんとも微妙な空気がしっかりと目撃できるのです。その反対に盛大に絡んで盛り上がるのがラストの「Going Down」。スティーヴ・ルカサー、ニール・ショーン、ジョン・ウェイトが登場しての豪華共演に、ステージ上も観客も大騒ぎになります。特に、この最終日ではルカサーがはしゃぎまくり、ジェフとギターを交換したり、ハグしたり。やたらと楽しそうな光景が見られます。

さて、そんなオーディエンス・ショットに続いて登場するのが２つめの映像。これは関係者が撮影したもので、開演中の楽屋通路から始まる。そのままスタッフは撮影しながらステージに向かい、ボジオの後ろから間近で録りまくるのです。その近さは、ほぼプロショットのドラムカメラとお考えください。もちろん、引きになればジェフの姿もしっかり映ります。
こちらは５曲分と短い映像なのですが、最後の「Going Down」を押さえているのが嬉しい。メインのオーディエンス・ショットでも楽しげなムードは十分に伝わりましたが、こちらはギタリスト陣の表情までしっかりと分かる近さ。豪華共演の華やかさが一層輝く貴重な接写ショットなのです。
ベースレスにも関わらず猛烈なアンサンブルを叩きつけた“GUITAR SHOPトリオ”。その独特な緊張感を“光景”で体験でき、さらに豪華ギターヒーロー３人の共演に間近で迫れる傑作映像。本編ライヴアルバムのイメージを膨らませる意味でも、貴重なシーンの目撃者になるにも最高の１枚。どうぞ、本編プレス2CDと併せ、たっぷりとお楽しみください。
