It is an archive sound source of Eric Clapton, which was believed to have already been exhausted, but it will be released for the first time in 36 years and we will release the first appearance sound source uploaded on the net recently at a great upgraded version! At this point Gary Brooker has not joined yet. I went to the first tour after two warm-up gigs without Brooker, in October of the same year. However, there were various flaws in this master that was uploaded on the net. First of all, it was about a semitone throughout, and randomly the pitch was high. Our engineers naturally adjusted this perfectly. In addition, the unclear sound quality was transformed clear to remastering. There is no doubt that the whole impression has been greatly improved by this. In addition, Key To The Highway deleted “Kyuru” sound that was occurring in the intro. For the “Kyur” sound that was also at 0:32 and the temporary stop part, beating perfectly with compensating by beating from a different place. Although the intro was missing in the master itself, it was unavoidable that I could not repair the sound cut at 0:44, but at the following Cocaine’s 0:54 it was a terrible pause and the missing part was beat We fixed and adjusted perfectly. Currently, it seems that the CD-R thing that downloaded the net tone generator as it is released, but this is the only board that made finely delicate and polite mending here. It would be natural for the maniacs to know which one faithfully reproduced the original concert and which one can listen without stress.
In this tour, unusually Clapton unintentionally removed Layla which has been playing for many years as the final number of the regular set. It got used to the response of a special audience to this number and it is the result of seeking freshness as an issue for me who was immersed in the expected harmony as if there is a concert for this number. Instead, I’ve featured 2 songs of Albert Lee and Gary Brooker, who were big names as solos. In particular Brooker’s number Leave The Candle is a number that was backed up and released as a single by all the Clapton bands at the time, and this live version is a very valuable take only for this tour. もう出尽くしたと思われていたエリック・クラプトンのアーカイヴ音源ですが、36年ぶりに発掘され、最近ネット上にアップロードされた初登場音源を当店による大幅グレードアップバージョンにてリリース致します！1980年5月3日のイギリス、ブライトン公演の良質なステレオ・オーディエンスソースです。この公演は、この月に2週間余りの短期で行なわれたUKツアーの2公演目に当たっていました。バンドメンバーを見ていただくと、プロコル・ハルムのゲイリー・ブルッカーやアルバート・リーが参加しており、前年末に行なわれたジャパン・ツアーの布陣と似ていることにお気づきでしょう。それではここでこのツアーまでのクラプトンバンドの推移を時系列的に見てみましょう。

74年以降ずっとサポートしてきてくれたアメリカ人バンド「タルサ・トップス」を突如解雇し、オーディションを経てメンバーを全員イギリス人ミュージシャンに入れ替えたのが1979年8月。この時点ではゲイリー・ブルッカーはまだ加入していませんでした。ブルッカー抜きでの2回のウォームアップギグを経て最初のツアーに出たのが同年10月。しかしながら、クラプトンの半生記であるレイ・コールマン著「エリック・クラプトン・ストーリー」にあるように、10月18日のポーランド、カトウィッチェ公演では、共産圏であるために日常、政府から抑圧されていた民衆のテンションがクラプトンのロックでMAXに達したのを国家警察が暴力的に鎮圧するのを目の当たりにしたクラプトンが途中で演奏を中止し、翌日の同地での公演を失意の中でキャンセルするという事件がありました。そのため、せっかくのニューバンドのお披露目だったツアーはクラプトンの満足のいくものとはなりませんでした。そこで気持ちを入れ替え、いつも熱心に温かく演奏を聴いてくれる日本を主眼に置いたツアーを翌月に実施します。その成果に満足したクラプトンは自ら指示して東京公演をライブ・レコーディングさせます。「JUST ONE NIGHT」と題されたこのアルバムは、翌80年5月1日にリリースされ、全米チャート2位まで駆け上がる高い評価を得ました。このリリース日の翌日から始まったのが、本盤がレコーディングされたUKツアーだったのです。しかも前年ツアーの終了後、80年の春までの期間にクラプトンは、サリー州の自邸の近所に住み、フライフィッシングを伝授してくれたゲイリー・ブルッカーと親しくなり、彼をバンドに引き入れました。つまりブルッカーを加えて初めて実施されたのが、このUKツアーだったというわけです。クラプトンとすれば、前年に手応えを掴んだオールブリティッシュバンドにブルッカーを加え、ツインキーボードによる新たなアプローチを試す機会ともなりました。彼の新たなチャレンジが窺える貴重なツアー2日目の音源が36年の時を経て日の目を見たというわけです。
しかしながら、ネット上にアップされたこのマスターにはいろいろ欠陥がありました。まずは、全体を通して約半音、しかもランダムにピッチが高かったのです。当店のエンジニアは当然これを完璧に調整しました。さらに不鮮明だった音質をリマスタリングによりクリアに変貌させました。全体の印象はこれで大幅にグレードアップしたことは間違いありません。さらに、Key To The Highway ではイントロで発生していた “キュル”音を削除。0:32 にもあった”キュル”音と一時停止部分については別箇所から拍合わせをしての補填で完璧にメンディング。マスター自体でイントロが欠落していた上に、0:44の音切れ部分の修復ができなかったのは止むを得ませんでしたが、続くCocaineの0:54で酷い一時停止と欠落箇所も拍合わせをして完璧に修正致しました。現在、ネット音源をそのままダウンロードしたCD-R物もリリースされているようですが、ここまで細かく繊細かつ丁寧なメンディングを施したのは本盤だけです。マニアの方々には、どちらが本来のコンサートを忠実に再現したものか、どちらがストレスなく聴けるものかは自ずとお判りいただけることでしょう。
このツアーでは、珍しくクラプトンはレギュラーセットのファイナルナンバーとして長年演奏してきたLaylaを敢えてセットからはずしました。このナンバーへの特別なオーディエンスのレスポンスに慣れてしまい、このナンバーのためにコンサートがあるかのような予定調和に浸っていた自分への課題として新鮮さを求めた結果でしょう。その代わり、ソロとしてもビッグネームであったアルバート・リーとゲイリー・ブルッカーのナンバーを2曲ずつフィーチャーしています。特にブルッカーのナンバーLeave The Candleは、当時クラプトンバンド全員がバックアップしてシングルリリースされたナンバーで、このライブバージョンはこのツアーだけの非常に貴重なテイクと言えます。クラプトンはこうしたステージ構成でバンド総体としてのパフォーマンスをプレゼンテーションしたということでしょう。クラプトンのプレイについては、「JUST ONE NIGHT」同様、泣き捲る、唸り捲るブラッキーの枯れたハーフトーンが全編で聴かれます。しかもこの日は当店リリースの既発盤でニューキャッスル公演を収録した「NEWCASTLE 1980」とはセットリストが異なっています。聴きどころ満載の初登場音源を是非当店だけのベストなクオリティで収録した本盤でご堪能ください。初回のみの限定シルバーディスクプレス盤となりますので、お早めのオーダーをお願い致します。
