The highest masterpiece image of DIO revived with the highest peak quality ever. The best masterpiece is the official video “A SPECIAL FROM THE SPECTRUM” of “Philadelphia Concert on August 25, 1984”. In the golden age DIO was making a long-length live image as a tour, but this work is the second work. Let’s organize the collection of official images first.

Four movies have been released on 3 tours. Of these, the official DVD is currently available only for “FINDING THE SACEDED HEART: LIVE IN PHILLY 1986”. As a matter of fact, “LIVE ’83” “A SPECIAL FROM THE SPECTRUM” was also officially released as “WE ROCK” in 2005, but unfortunately it is incomplete. The opening number “Stand Up And Shout” that was recorded on the original VHS / Laser Disc has been deleted, and it begins with “Do not Talk To Strangers” unnaturally. Moreover, its “WE ROCK” has also been discontinued now.
This work is a gem that realized the highest quality in history of such unfaithful “A SPECIAL FROM THE SPECTRUM”. At the time, it was a laser disk released only in Japan, using a mint quality board. We entrusted it to a professional manufacturer overseas and transferred it exactly to DVD. That quality is exactly the highest peak. The resolution which is completely different from the video is beautiful, there is also nothing of the tape running or deterioration. On the contrary, even if it is in line with the actually formulated DVD “WE ROCK”, it does not feel bad at all. Of course, unlike the official DVD, the opening of incandescent “Stand Up And Shout” is also perfect.
Official video portrayed with that quality is right to call “DIO’s best masterpiece” correctly. As mentioned above, although there are four official pictures in the golden age, the highest peak in the comprehensive point of performance, set list and direction is definitely this work. Actually, if you look at other works, “LIVE ’83” has full of enthusiasm for the start period, but there is little direct production as it has not yet been successful. “FINDING THE SACRED HEART” has a gorgeous production, but unfortunately there is no originator Vivian Campbell. “SUPER ROCK ’85 IN JAPAN” has a Vivian, but for the first day of the tour it is not a regular condition because of trouble continuity … …. 以上、３ツアーで４本の映像作品がリリースされました。このうち、現在オフィシャルDVDが入手可能なのは『FINDING THE SACRED HEART: LIVE IN PHILLY 1986』だけです。実のところ、『LIVE ’83』『A SPECIAL FROM THE SPECTRUM』も2005年に『WE ROCK』として公式DVD化されたのですが、残念ながら不完全版。オリジナルのVHS／レーザーディスクには収録されていたオープニングナンバー「Stand Up And Shout」が削られ、不自然に「Don’t Talk To Strangers」から始まるというもの。しかも、現在はその『WE ROCK』も生産中止になっています。
本作は、そんな不遇な『A SPECIAL FROM THE SPECTRUM』の史上最高峰クオリティを実現した逸品。元になったのは、当時、日本でのみリリースされたレーザーディスクで、ミント・クオリティ盤を使用。それを海外の専門メーカーに委託して精緻にDVDに移し替えました。そのクオリティは、まさに最高峰。ビデオとはまったく違う解像度は美しく、テープの走行ヨレや劣化のイズムも皆無。それどころか、実際に公式化されたDVD『WE ROCK』と並べてもまったく見劣りしない。もちろん、公式DVDとは違い、白熱のオープニング「Stand Up And Shout」もばっちりです。
そのクオリティで描かれるオフィシャル映像は、正しく「DIOの最高傑作」と呼ぶに相応しい。上記したように黄金期には４本の公式映像があるものの、演奏・セットリスト・演出の総合点で最高峰は間違いなく本作なのです。実際、他の作品を観てみると『LIVE ’83』はスタート期の情熱が溢れるものの、まだ成功を収めていないだけに演出がほとんどない。『FINDING THE SACRED HEART』は豪華な演出があるものの、残念ながらオリジネイターのヴィヴィアン・キャンベルがいない。『SUPER ROCK ’85 IN JAPAN』にはヴィヴィアンがいるものの、ツアー初日のためにトラブル続きで本調子ではない……。こうした欠点が散見するのです。実のところ、本作も「Stand Up And Shout」で構成を間違えるミスがあったりする（だから『WE ROCK』でカットされたのでしょう）のですが、即興で加えた歌詞とメロディまでもがカッコよく、期せずしてポテンシャルの高さを見せつけてしまう。そんな心技体がすべて充実した状態で『HEAVEN AND HELL』『MOB RULES』『HOLY DIVER』『THE LAST IN LINE』という、ロニーのキャリアでもっとも成功した４枚を凝縮した極上セットを演奏するのですから、そのライヴが悪かろうハズがないのです。
ロニーの人生でもっとも成功した“THE LAST IN LINE TOUR”。その頂点映像を史上最高峰クオリティで蘇らせた１本です。希代の名シンガー：ロニー・ジェイムズ・ディオの何たるかをこれ以上なく描ききった最高傑作映像。どうぞ、今週末たっぷりとお楽しみください。

【1984年１月14日ハリウッド公演】
“HOLY DIVER TOUR”の最終盤（最後から３公演目）に撮影された４曲。テレビ番組用の特別パフォーマンスらしく、手のおもちゃ（アダムスファミリー？）を頭に乗せたパーソナリティが仕切るわ、変なお姉ちゃんがロニーに抱きつくわ、珍妙な演出を目撃できます。そんな番組の流儀？に付き合いつつも、本道の演奏／歌唱はDIO流ヘヴィメタルの権化。“HOLY DIVER TOUR”はロニーの歌声も豪快なのですが、ここでも苛烈なヴォーカリゼイションが炸裂しています。「Man On The Silver Mountain」は大定番なイメージですが、実は『LIVE ’83』『A SPECIAL FROM THE SPECTRUM』でも観られない意外なレア・ショットです。
【1984年６月11日PINK POP FESTIVAL】
次も1984年ですが、こちらは『THE LAST IN LINE』時代。ツアーに先立つ井ウォームアップとして出演した“PINK POP FESTIVAL 1984”の模様です。この日はサウンドボード音源は『THE LAST IN LINE』のデラックス・エディションにも収録されていますが、プロショット映像も２曲「One Night In The City」「We Rock」だけ存在します。どちらも新曲の初演にあたるわけですが、それだけに演奏ぶりはかなりぎこちない。特に「We Rock」は歌入りから豪快に間違え、かなりボロボロ。いつでも安定しているDIOにしては、珍しいほどのダメっぷりも極上クオリティで目撃できる楽しい映像です。
【1986年４月THE TUBE出演】
最後はクレイグ・ゴールディのお披露目パフォーマンスだったテレビ番組“THE TUBE”です。局内のスタジオで『SACRED HEART』の代表２曲「Hungry For Heaven」「Rock’n Roll Children」を生披露しており、初演にして滑らかなピッキングを見せつけるクレイグが素晴らしい。目にも眩しい七色の照明が踊り狂い、さらに80年代らしい映像処理まで加わるという、通常コンサートではあり得ないカラフル・プロショットです。
以上の３番組８曲。短いために見逃されがちなプロショットを網羅した１枚です。女性に抱きつかれる演出や思いっきり間違えても動じない表情、そしてド派手な80年代スタジオライヴ……。プロショット・コレクションを完璧にするための１本ではありますが、単なるコレクト以上に長編プロショットでは味わえない見応えもたっぷりの１本。どうぞ、本編プレスDVDと併せて心ゆくまで黄金期DIOをお楽しみください。
