一番気になるサウンドは、さすが、さすがのキニー録音。いわゆる“まるでサウンドボード”と言われるタイプの端正な録音で、楽音がダイレクト感もたっぷり。ダンサブルでシャープに生まれ変わったボウイ・サウンドが鮮やかに耳に注ぎ込まれるのです。その上で、いかにも80年代的な会場の空気感もしっかりとあるのが美味しい。このツアーは各地のライヴで黄色い嬌声が飛び交うものですが、本作にも広く一般にまで広がった人気の厚さと熱さが封じ込まれていながら、楽音を一切邪魔しない。収録ポジションまでは伝わっていませんが、会場の隅々まで広がる熱狂がありながらも、楽音はレーザービームのようにビビッド。まるで後からマルチチャンネルのミックスで調整したかのように絶妙なバランスで、時代感・熱狂・演奏・歌声が理想的に広がるのです。

ボウイのキャリアでも商業的にも人気面でもピークでありながら、録音数の少なかった“SERIOUS MOONLIGHT TOUR 1983”。その貴重なコンサートが美麗なキニー・サウンドで広がるライヴアルバムです。正直なところ、数々のバンド／ミュージシャンが日本公演の記録を残しつつ、実際に聴いてみると海外公演と何が違うのか分からないことも珍しくありません。しかし、本作は日本語で語りかけるMC、80年代の日本にしかない歓声も含め、強烈に“ライヴ・イン・ジャパン”が感じられる１本。物議を醸しつつも、確実に光輝いてもいた33年前のボウイに出会える本生100％の新発掘音源。誰も聴いたことのなかった“ボウイと日本”の想い出の１ページ。今週末、あなたのお手元へ。
