1995年ブライアン・フェリーがロビン・トロワーと行った1995年UKツアーより、12公演中6公演目にあたる2月8日のウォルバーハンプトン公演を極上レベルのステレオ・サウンドボード音源で登場です。1989年、「Bete Noier」ツアー終了後、次回作として始めたHoroscope Sessionは、当時の最新録音技術を駆使した多重録音と、フェリーの完璧主義から、とうとう完成にいたらずに頓挫してしまいその打開策として元プロコルハルムでジミヘンフォロワーとして数多くの傑作ギターアルバムを発表しているロビン・トロワーが共同プロデューサーとして参加し、92年ころから先のHoroscope Session時の複数のトラックの再録音がなされました。ちょうどフェリー、トロワーが共通でスタンダード・ナンバーの愛好家であったことから、久々のカヴァーアルバムも同時進行で行われ、これが93年の「Taxi」として実にフェリーの６年ぶりのソロアルバムとしてリリース。続けて94年には、Horoscope Sessionの再録トラックをメインに収録した「Mamouna」がリリースされました。ロビン・トロワーが共同プロデューサーというニュースは、当時日本でも報道され、トロワーの参加には、多くはジミヘンフォロワーとしてのイメージだけで疑問や否定的な意見がなされましたが、トロワー自身の「In City Dreams」「Caravan to Midnight」といった作品からもフェリーとの相性がよかったことは想像することができます。フェリー自身は「Taxi」完成の経緯としてこの頃の事を「怠けがちな自分にもっと歌えもっと歌えとトロワーがいつも葉っぱをかけてくれていた。」と語っています。久々に音楽シーンに復帰したフェリーは、この2作の世界ツアーを94年9月から開始。日本公演も95年3月に行われましたが、この時期の音源は不思議と全くリリースされませんでした。そんな中で近年、当時FM放送されたと思われる超高音質音源を50分にわたってネット上に公開され、それをリマスター収録したのが本作です。放送音源と言う触れ込みで登場した本音源ですが、カセットテープを経由しているとは思えない、もしや局マスターのデジタルコピーの流出では？と疑う程のウルトラクリアーなサウンドで、この時期の貴重なショウを存分に楽しむことが出来ます。とにかく驚かされるのは、音の良さとライブでの音作りの素晴らしさで、特にスタジオアルバムの複雑で深淵な音像の洪水を名手トロワーが見事に再現していることです。チョーキング、アーム、ペダルとギターテクを駆使し次々と繰り出されるギターは聞くものを魅了すること間違いありません。ライブでは音楽監督の立場にもあったトロワーですが、ギタリストとしても超一流のプレイを惜しみなく披露しています。「Taxi」「Mamouna」以外のロキシースタンダードナンバーとも言えるOut Of The Blue、Virginia Plain、Jealous Guy、Editions Of You、Do The Strandも、この時期ならではのアレンジで、あえてマンザネラ的な音色でギターソロをするトロワーのプレイも聴きどころの一つです。また、フュージョン系のリズム隊の中で特にベースが驚異のテクニックを見せております。もちろんフェリー本人も相変わらず妙味な歌声を聞かせ観客をわかせています。フェリー、トロワーという通常ではありえない2枚大看板が共演した貴重なライブは両ファンならずとも必聴です。オフィシャル・リリースも可能なほどのスーパー・クオリティで収録された超高音質ステレオ・ライン録音で蘇る1995年フェリーの魅惑のパフォーマンスをお楽しみください。限定プレスCDにて、好評Virtuosoレーベルよりリリース決定です。

さて95年といえば、94年のアルバム『Mamouna』のプロモーション・ツアーに当たる。本作は英公演のBBC放送分が元音源となっていて、実際にコンサートで演奏された曲目の約半分に当たる10曲が収録されている。放送用音源のため、モチロン最高のサウンドボード録音である。95年にはジャパン・ツアーもあったのだが、『Mamouna』というアルバム自体がそうであったように、ちょっと地味めで落ち着いた雰囲気のライヴであったという印象が残っている。だが本作には『Mamouna』からの曲は2曲だけ。大半は放送用のためか有名曲中心のラインナップとなっているので、ロキシーやフェリーのライトなファンにも楽しめる内容だ。繰り返すが音質は最高だし。このライヴには前作『Taxi』からの付き合いとなるロビン・トロワーもギタリストの一人として参加、締まったプレイでシブく決めている。オープニング曲「I Put A Spell On You」のイントロでムワーっと立ち上がるフェリー独特の妖しい夜のムードが相変わらずかっこいい。また、ノリのいい「Virginia Plain」や「Editions Of You」「Do The Strand」といったお馴染みのロキシー・ナンバーやライヴで必ず盛り上がるレノンのカヴァー「Jealous Guy」も収められた内容的にもハズレの無い一枚で、プレスCDというのもうれしい。ところで本作にはひとつ謎があって、この音源が実際にBBCで放送されたときにはもう1曲「In Every Dream Home A Heartache」がプログラムに入っていたという情報があるが、本作からはカットされている…なぜ？　次回再発するときにはそれも入れてほしい。あと、同じツアーの94年アメリカでのライヴもWESTWOOD ONEという有名なライヴFMプログラムで放送されている。当然本作とは別もののライヴ音源であり、選曲もちょっと違っている。そちらも探してカップリングしてみてはどうだろう。ということで、今後のヴァージョン・アップに期待。なお、冒頭に書いたように本作の初回納品分にはボーナスCDR『Horoscope Sessions』、そしてなんとこれが初出となるライヴ音源『Olympia In Moscow』の2枚が付くという大盤振る舞いが敢行されるので要注意！　前者は1993年頃に発表が予定されながらお蔵入りとなった幻のアルバム『Horoscope』のデモ・テイク集。何度かブート化されているが、今回は曲順入れ替えと新マスターによりクオリティが上がっているとのこと。そして注目の初登場音源は2011年の『Olympia』発表ツアーのモスクワ公演が18曲も収められた、高音質のライヴ音源。このツアーの音源としては以前に『The Final Olympia』というイギリス公演を収めたオーディエンス録音のものが2枚組で出ていたが、今回は同公演初のサウンドボード音源であり、音質もバランスも良好。メーカーが「衝撃の超高音質音源！！！」と謳うのも誇大広告ではないのだ。実質３枚組を１枚の値段で買える本作の大盤振る舞い企画はお得感満点。ブートはある内に手に入れておこう！
