The latest work of the Sessions series covering outtakes and different mixes for each album by Beatles is “Let It Be”. Recording will be later for “Abbey Road”, but in the order in which it was released virtually the last album is “Let It Be”. Until the recording of the album “Let It Be” and its recording process has been complicated through twists and turns, it is well known that a huge amount of tape is left behind. What is included in this work is not a redundant performance such as a so-called “Get Back Session” without an endless sessions without a purpose, it contains multi-recording for Apple’s studio album recording. Disk 1 is three sessions “Two Of Us” “Dig A Pony” “Across The Universe”. Disk 2 is four songs “I Me Mine” “Dig It” “Let It Be” “Magie Mae”. Disk 3 includes sessions of ‘I’ve Got A Feeling’, ‘One After 909’, ‘Long And Winding Road’ and ‘For You Blue’ respectively. You can see that the contents of the recording are fulfilling in this work even if you see the disc where the disc is divided in just a few songs. In addition to the “Get Back” session, disks 4 and 5 are sessions of songs which have been eventually sent off while album recording is being considered and subsequently announced or unpublished later.

And the last disc 6 is a complete record of the analog boot “O.P. D.” famous as rare board. It is the first CD format with complete collection of WKBW acetate. Even if this material flows out, especially when it is released in units of dozens of items in a series such as Day By Day, there are facts that have not been recorded yet, but about 5 recorded in this “OPD” “Dig It” over a minute can only be heard here. ビートルズのアルバムごとにアウトテイクや別ミックスなどを網羅するセッションズシリーズの最新作は、『Let It Be』です。レコーディングは『Abbey Road』の方が後になりますが、リリースされた順では事実上最後のアルバムとなるのが『Let It Be』です。いよいよこのセッションシリーズも大詰めに入ってきたということになります。

アルバム『Let It Be』のレコーディングに至るまで、及びそのレコーディングの過程は紆余曲折を経て複雑なものとなっており、その結果膨大な量のテープが残されているのは周知の通り。本作に収録されているのは、いわゆる「ゲットバック・セッション」として目的なく延々セッションが続くような冗長な演奏ではなく、アップルスタジオにおけるアルバム収録のためのマルチレコーディングを収録しています。アルバム収録曲順に、当初収録予定だったものの最終的に見送られた「Teddy Boy」などを含み、何度かトライされつつ、最終的な形に至るまでのレコーディングの様子が6枚のディスクに渡って完全収録されています。最終形とされつつ何度か作り直されたアルバム『GET BACK』に関しては、Ｍクローデル・レーベルから『GET BACK COLLECTION』として4枚組＋解説ブックレットがリリースされていますので、そちらを聴いていただくとして、本作に収録はそのアルバム製作の過程、タイトル通りセッションを収録しているのです。

ディスク1は「Two Of Us」「Dig A Pony」「Across The Universe」の3曲のセッション。ディスク2は「I Me Mine」「Dig It」「Let It Be」「Magie Mae」の4曲。ディスク3は「I’ve Got A Feeling」「One After 909」「Long And Winding Road」「For You Blue」のセッションがそれぞれ収録されています。わずか数曲でディスクが分かれているところを見ても、本作に収録の内容が充実したものであるというのが伺えます。ディスク4と5は「Get Back」のセッションの他、その後はアルバム収録が検討されつつも結局見送られ、後にシングルとして発表或いは未発表のままになっている楽曲のセッションになっています。

そして最後のディスク6は、レア盤として有名な、アナログ・ブート『O.P.D.』をそのまま完全収録。ＷＫＢＷアセテートを完全収録した初CD化です。これだけマテリアルが流出し、特にDay By Dayといったシリーズで数十枚単位でリリースされていても尚、それらに未収録のものが存在している事実がありますが、この『O.P.D.』に収録の約5分に渡る「Dig It」は、ここでしか聴けません。また「GET BACK」は他のミックスやシングル・バージョンと異なりリプライズにつながらず、WBCNのミックスをさらに延長した終わり方をします。これらの特長は、いずれもこの『O.P.D.』にしか収録されていない貴重なものです。

アルバム『レット・イット・ビー』のアウトテイク、別ミックスなどを完全網羅した6枚組でスリップケース付。もちろん美しいピクチャー・ディスク仕様の永久保存がっちりプレス盤です。このSECRET GARDENレーベルのセッションシリーズで、ぜひ全アルバムを揃えていただけたらと思います。
