オリジナル・エイジアによる1982年公演から待望の新発掘・新音源が初登場。82年秋に行われた短いヨーロッパツアーをシューティングした優良なオーディエンス録音で、ただでさえ音源数の少なかったこの時期の公演がノーカット完全収録されているという優れものだ。オープニング「Time Again」はのっけから82年らしいドライヴ感があり、中音域～低音域のメリハリの効いたサウンドアタックが気持ち良い。終曲部の最後の歌詞「A～～gain!!」をウエットンが力強く発した後、これぞ82年エイジアサウンドの醍醐味とも言えるザクザクした全体音がゆっくりと収束し、バンッと一気に炸裂する様子は非常に聴き応えがある。「Wildest Dreams」では一回目の「They Fight!!」の後にミスタッチで変な音を出しているダウンズがここにも居る。これは他の公演でも何度か同様のミス音を聴けるが、あの鍵盤要塞の中でここを弾く時よっぽど肘が当たり易いところに鍵盤があったのか、もしくは両手のバランスを取り辛い微妙な立ち位置に居たのだろう。つまりこの”半・定番ミス”もまた、82年のステージ風景に思いを馳せられるちょっとしたポイントになっている訳だ。勿論演奏そのものは極上の躍動感に充ちており、続く「Without You」の重苦しくも力強いサウンドと共にショウ前半の山場としてその音楽が大きく動いてゆく様子は必聴である。
ハウのソロはこの日、曲中で何度か現れる特徴的な高速ハンマリング部分から入ってくるという「Valley Of Rocks」でスタートしているのだが、これはかなり珍しい。イエスのステージではやった事があるのかもしれないが、少なくとも82年～83年エイジアのステージでこういうスタートをしている彼のソロは本音源以外に聴いたことが無い。また一音一音の発弦音が素晴らしい音で収録されており、この後の「Clap」も含めここはハウの実力と本作の音質力を再確認できる面白いポイントでもある。「Only Time Will Tell」はサビの部分で高らかに鳴るギターと、そのバックを細かい打音で装飾しているカールの素晴らしい仕事に注目して戴きたい。終曲部もキーボードが珍しい展開で弾いており(何と旋律が上昇してゆく!!)、大変独特の余韻を感じさせるものになっている。「One Step Closer」も2分39秒付近で”一拍溜めて”続いてゆくこの時期ならではの表情の付け方がバッチリ決まっているし、終曲部での楽しそうなアンサンブル(一瞬カウベルらしき音が鳴るのも面白い)も大きな聴き処だ。
「The Smile Has ～」は82年ではこのヨーロッパツアーでのみ披露された独特の2部構成。この日は前半と後半を結ぶブリッジがスムーズに繋がっているばかりでなく、朗々と歌い上げるウエットンと高らかに鳴り響くギター、そして肉厚な音の粒が刻まれながらジェット機の轟音と共に拡散してゆくサウンドイメージが圧倒的だ。「Here Comes The Feeling」は途中、何故かギターが引っ込んで不思議な引っ掛かりを感じさせる箇所(2分28秒付近～36秒付近。4分20秒付近～26秒付近も同様。PAかハウのボリュームミス？)があるが、それが結果的にウエットンの歌声を一歩前に押し出す為の演出にも感じられ、なかなかユニークな味付けになっている。「Heat Of The Moment」は終曲部の最後の歌詞を「Eye～～♪」と伸ばすこの時期独特の表現だが、この日は一風変わった音程で伸ばしているのも特徴だろう。まさに最後の最後まで耳が離せない収録内容である。
録音はオーディエンス録音だが、演奏音も近いうえ中～低音域にもなかなかの迫力を感じさせる良好な音質で収録されている。「Sole Survivor」終演後～「Heat Of The Moment」開始前のアンコール待ちの間にカットが2回あるが、曲待ちの間がカットされているだけなのでここは特に気にならないだろう。唯一、「Heat Of The Moment」の00分43秒付近でマスターテープの劣化なのかメーカーがピッチ補正をした痕跡なのか判別の付かない音質変化が一瞬だけあるのだが、これも一瞬なうえ流れが損なわれている訳でも無かったので、筆者個人的にはさほどの違和感は感じなかった。しかし、それにしてもよくこれほどの音源が流出されずに眠っていたものだ。2012年9月、エイジアはデビュー30周年を記念するアニヴァーサリー・ツアーをここ日本で行った記憶がまだ新しいが、その一方で30年振りに姿を現したこの音源もまた、もうひとつの『XXX～ロマンへの回帰』と言えるだろう。82年のエイジアをありのまま封じ込めた素晴らしい発掘音源である。2CDプレス盤。
