The Shibuya public hall performance on April 8 was released from the Japanese tour of the famous board “DIVINE INTERVENTION” which told the opening of the second stage slayer for the first time with a complete recording of the finest soundboard / performance. The performance of the new song was very stable just as I came to Japan after finishing the Europe tour in the latter half of 1994, I think that this day was one of the best performances during the performance in Japan. 第二期スレイヤーの幕開けを告げた名盤『DIVINE INTERVENTION』の日本ツアーから、4月8日の渋谷公会堂公演が極上サウンドボード・一公演完全収録で初登場。94年後半のヨーロッパツアーを終えて来日しただけに新曲の演奏が非常に安定しており、この日は来日公演中での屈指のパフォーマンスだったと思う。特にデイヴの後任として当時新しく加入したポールは、FORBIDDEN時代からの手数の多さとアグレッシヴさを前面に押し出し、デイヴの叩き出すビートとはまた別の感動を与えていた。その両ドラマーの個性は初期の曲で明確に表れており、かつての名曲がポールならではのビートで新たなドラマを紡ぎ出している。
ショウの内容だが、ショート・セットが多かったヨーロッパツアーと比べ、この日本ツアーではフルセットのかなり充実した内容だったのが懐かしい。中には今ではすっかり演奏されなくなった曲も含まれており、特に『213』はセットから外されるのもかなり早かった為に、今となっては貴重なテイクと言えるだろう。ケリーとジェフのツインギターもこの頃は目立ってスリリングさを増してきており、本作での楽曲のキレ味も素晴らしいと思う。しかしやはり特筆されるのはトムのパフォーマンスであろう。唯一無二の圧倒的な個性はこの日も炸裂しており、特にDISC 2ではその存在感が絶対的なものだと思い知らされる筈だ。デイヴが戻ってきた現在、この時期のスレイヤーは懐かしい過去の一幕となったが、このポール在籍時の演奏はスレイヤー史上で最も知性的な音を出していた時期だったと思う。数学的に叩き出されるポールのブラストビートは、スレイヤーに新しい可能性を与えていた事を本作で改めて感じるのではないだろうか。観客の声や反応が殆ど聞こえない為に臨場感には若干欠けるものの、音質そのものはさすがにサウンドボードだけあってこれ以上望めない程に大変優れた音質で収録されている。DIVEINE INTERVENTIONツアー時の音源は、『SPIRITS IN BLACK (KTS-393』など名盤が多いが、本作も間違いなくその仲間入りを果たすでああろうことを予感させる充実の内容だ。全スレイヤーファン必携の一枚。2枚組プレスCD。
