1983年６月に行なった「マネー・アンド・シガレッツＵＳツアー」から、デトロイト３日間連続公演の高音質オーディエンス録音音源が一挙リリースです。この音源はかのJEMSによる高音質ソースで、今までまったく公開されたことのなかったものです。本盤はその上に独自のリマスタリングを施し、より聴きやすい音質に変貌させています。元々３日間ともドラム・サウンドがしっかり収められたタイトな音像でしたが、共通しているのは音の抜けがいまひとつと言う点でした。そのため、３日間とも低音域を絞り、高音域を引き上げて、よりくっきり立ったサウンドを目指しました。特に29日音源の改善ぶりには目を見張るものがあります。また28日音源はテープの保存状態が原因か、曲によって音質が違うというムラがありましたので、曲ごとに細かなサウンド補整を行ない、できる限り音質のムラの改善を図りました。勿論、完璧とは言えないレベルではありますが、その改善度はマニアには評価していただけるでしょう。初日の27日音源の「Key To The Highway」の2:40、「Cocaine」の6:00に、テープ・チェンジによるカットがあるのは元マスターからですが、どの日もワンランク上の音質に生まれ変わっています。
この３音源が公開されたことで、新たに分かった事実があります。初日の27日のオープニング・ナンバー「Tulsa Time」のイントロの途中で、いきなりクラプトンが「ちょっと中座するよ。すぐに戻るから。」とアナウンスして演奏をストップしてしまいます。ここで録音テープは一旦止められ、演奏再開時に再スタートしています。中座の原因は不明ですが、このアクシデントが３日目の29日にも同じ曲の同じ箇所で起こっています。３日目の時には、ムーディーなピアノの演奏とそれに重なるクラプトンのスライド・プレイが延々と引っ張って続けられ、なかなか曲本来のイントロが始まりません。その際、クラプトンは「ドラマーの風邪が悪化したんだ。また戻ってくるから待っててね。」とアナウンスして演奏をストップします。ひょっとすると、初日も同じ理由によるものだったかもしれません。その割にジェイミー・オールデイカーのプレイは精彩を欠くこともなく、いつものようにタイトなところがさすがと言うべきでしょうか。解熱剤が効いたのか、あるいは憶測ですが、効き過ぎたドラッグの症状を緩和したのか・・。このトラブルの度合いの激しかった３日目は、セット・リストから「After Midnight」と「The Shape You’re In」が落とされたショート・セットになっています。オールデイカーの体調を考慮した結果でしょう。休むことなく続けられる長いツアー中には、こんなこともあったのだという貴重な記録としても鑑賞の対象となるでしょう。この年４月30日に亡くなったクラプトンの心の師マディ・ウォータースへのトリビュートとして「Standing Around Crying」をセットインさせたツアーでもあり、そのスピリットがあったため、クラプトンとバンドの演奏はトラブルにもめげず普段どおりのタイトネスを示しています。近年、初めて登場したデトロイトはクラークストン３公演のグレードアップ・バージョン。「このくらいの音源はしっかりとプレスCDで持っていたい」というコレクターの気持ちにお応えしての6枚組プレスCDでの一挙リリースです。
