イエスの解散後、クリス・スクワイアとアラン・ホワイトが、ツェッペリン解散後のジミー・ペイジとで新バンド結成を目論んだ「XYZ」(ex-Yes/Zep)の４曲デモ・テイクを収録。2年ほど前に登場。過去よりお馴染みの音源ですが、これまで出回っていたテイクよりジェネレーションが若いということで、話題になったファン必聴のアップグレード・ヴァージョンです。弾きまくるクリスのベースに、ジミーらしいギターの味付けが被さり、シンプルながら聴きごたえ満点のテイクを楽しむことが出来ます。１曲目はイエスのMind Drive(Part 1)の大元で曲の大筋は既に完成しています。よりシンフォニックなイエス・ヴァージョンに比べ、ラッシュを彷彿とさせるようなバンドサウンドが堪りません。ジミー独特のタイム感が楽曲をより魅力的にしている感じです。2曲目はファームのセカンドアルバム「MEAN BUSINESS」のFortune Hunterの原曲で、2分台には軽快なギターソロも用意されています。3曲目のCan You Seeは、当時のニューウェーブに影響されたクリスのボーカル、ピアノも含めたクールなアンサンブルが興味深い佳曲で、3分台では短めのギターソロも用意されています。4曲目Telephone Secretsは7分30秒とこの4曲の中では最も長めでポップでポジティブなメロディが魅力のナンバーです。2分台で短めのギターソロあり。クリスのいかにも80年代初頭らしいボーカルも一興ですが、後半のインスト展開はたしかにイエスと後期ツェッペリンのフレイヴァーをミックスさせたような雰囲気も受けます。どれも既にマニアにはお馴染みのテイクですが、確かに過去のヴァージョンより、よりクリアーなサウンドで収録されています。またピッチは正確に補正しました。全体は22分ですが、聴き応え十分の、大変貴重な音源がアップグレード版で登場です。
