1976年「A Night At The Opera」に伴う2度目の日本ツアーより3月29日大阪厚生年金会館公演・夜の部公演を高音質オーディエンス録音で完全収録。屈指の名録音版でありながら、の最初の2トラックにおける、片チャネルでの激しくトレモロがかかったような音劣化が唯一の欠点であった名盤「ZOOM」音源。本盤は、同マスターながら、既発にあった音質劣化の問題が無い上に、若干速かったピッチも正確に補正し、全体の音声も適度にリマスターしたベスト・ヴァージョンを収録しています。散見されたプチノイズもそれぞれ丁寧に除去した決定盤。

名古屋→姫路→福岡(2回公演)という日程でスタートした1976年日本ツアーでしたが、日に日にフレディのコンディションが悪くなり、福岡公演後は医者から「しばらく声を出さないように」と診断された程の最悪の状況となってしまいます。2日間のオフを挟んだとは言え、キャンセルの可能性もあった大阪昼・夜の2公演ですが、フレディはボーカルを適度にセーブしながらも、持ち前のショウマンシップを存分に発揮、結果的に、両公演ともに素晴らしいショウを披露します。本盤に収録された、Ogre Battleの力強く美しく、コントロールの効いた歌声にファンは惚れ惚れと聴き入ってしまう事でしょう。Sweet Ladyの前には「コンバンワー」という言葉とともにノリの良いMCを披露。高めのキーが要求されるSweet Ladyも、低めのメロを模索しながら、ギリギリのフェイクで歌いまくる様は、曲後半の壮絶なボーカルアドリブを含め、聴き手を感動させます。お約束の日本語MCに続いてはWhite Queenとタイトルコールしたところに、女性客のヒステリックな反応にフレディが思わず「Listen, listen」と曲中でつぶやきます。中域からダイナミックに盛り上げる豊かなメロディと中間部のピアノとギターによるドラマは絶品ですが、曲後半はやはり苦しそうです。セーブしながら歌ったFlick Of The Wristに続く、Bohemian Rhapsodyでは、50秒付近の高域のMama…で完全に崩れてしまい、以降たどたどしいメロディでなんとかその場をキープする痛々しい様子はファンには辛いところでしょう。Killer Queenで若干復調、The March Of The Black Queen ではドスの効いた歌声で迫力あるパフォーマンスを披露します。そこからなんとか踏ん張り、Bohemian Rhapsodyのエンディングまでもっていきます。続くBrighton Rockのギターソロでの休憩が効いたのか、The Prophet’s Songでは次第に声に力強さが蘇ります。ベストではないものの、説得力溢れるパワフルかつ圧倒的な歌い回しは流石。全体が一丸となって凄みのある演奏を聴かせるStone Cold Crazyは感動的です。魅惑のメロディをスロウに力強く歌い上げるDoing Allrightでも十分な復調が伺えます。Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon の中盤のフェイク、ブレイクともに効果的で、Keep Yourself Alive、 Liarと続くハードロッキンな曲への素晴らしいイントロになっています。(Keep Yourself Aliveでは53秒付近でブライアンが構成を見失っています。)KYAのドラムソロがやけに迫力あるサウンドで収録されています。この辺りになると「どうなってしまうのか」と思われたショウ前半とは違い、全体がノリノリの演奏を披露しており、ラストの大団円に向かってドラマチックに爆走している感じがぐいぐい伝わってきて非常に楽しく聴けます。ロジャーのコーラスが大きめに録音されたLiarは絶品。6分目のズッコケもこの楽しい演奏の中では全く問題ありません。In The Lap Of The Godsもこの状況でよくこんな声が出るな~と思ってしまう魅力的な歌声でこちらも前半のような痛々しさは一切ありません。Now I’m Here、そしてアンコールRock’n’Roll Medleyは会場大盛り上がりの様子ですが、これだけ楽音がしっかりと録れているのはやはり流石です。イコライズ感もあまり感じられないのも魅力。クィーンの日本公演ライブとしては、最強・最高のドキュメントと言える「Zoom」のベスト・ヴァージョンが登場です。
