エレクトリック・バンドを従え、ヨーロッパを中心に久々にバンドと精力的にライブ活動を展開しているスティーブ・ハケットが新作「Out of the Tunnel’s Mouth」のリリースに合わせて行われたUKツアーより、11公演中5公演目の11月16日はミルトン・キーンズはステイブル・シアターでのライブを約2時間25分に渡って超高音質オーディエンス録音で完全収録。トレーダー間でも一切出回っていないオリジナルDATマスターをダイレクトに使用したファン必聴盤。オープニングはMechanical Brideで劇的にスタートしますが、なんと始まって20秒ほどで会場の電源が落ちてしまい、いきなりショウが中断。ハケットは「すごく短い曲でした」と自嘲気味のMCで笑いを誘いますが、その後、即興でスロウ・ブルースがトリオで演奏され、意外な聴き所が演出されます。ハケットのエレクトリックブルースというのもややイメージにそぐわず、どうにも様にならない演奏に、ハケットも「回復するまでちょっと引っ込むとするよ。10分ほど」と言い残し退場。15分後戻ってきたバンドは仕切りなおしでMechanical Brideをドラマチックにスタート。新作の1曲目Fire On The Moonに続いておなじみEveryday。以降、前半は新作ナンバーを連発します。Ace of Wands以降は新曲Tubeheadを挟みながら、Spectral Morningsなどソロ代表曲を次々と披露。バンドは今年、数多くのライブを行っているだけに見事なアンサンブルプレイでハケットを盛り立てます。ジェネシス時代のFirth Of Fifthはピアノイントロ付き。Jacuzziではゲストでジョン・ハケットが登場し見事なフルートソロを聴かせてくれます。以降は暫しアコースティック・ソロ・タイムで、Horizons、Blood On The Rooftopsをじっくりと聴かせます。メンバー紹介に続いては、今回のライブの大目玉「ブロードウェイ」からFly On A Windshield～Broadway Melody Of 1974が劇的に演奏され、聴き手を大いに感動させてくれます。新曲Sleepersに続いては元カジャグーグーのベーシスト、ニック・ベッグが「チャップマン・スティック」ソロを聴かせます。ラストの大団円は10分近い大迫力のLos Endosメドレーとドラムソロを組み込んだ同じく大曲Clocksで素晴らしい音楽的盛り上がりを体感できます。これをそのまま日本で演ったら大盛り上がり間違いなしの最高のライブを超高音質で収録した久々の快作ライブ盤！！これはお薦めです！！！

精力的な活動を続けるSteve Hackettの活動を捉えた1枚。ヨーロッパツアーでは先行で会場で販売されていたという久しぶりの新作『Out of the Tunnel’s Mouth』も公にハケットの新サイト（http://www.hackettsongs.com/）で発売された。2010年の夏にはプログレフェスティバルとして定着したアメリカNearfestへの参加も決まりノリに乗っている。さらにはEL&Pの最後のライヴとも言われるHigh Voltageフェスティバルへの参加も決まった。現在、Steve Hackettのエレクトリック・バンドはDik Cadburyから元カジャグーグーのNick Beggsに交代し、さらにAmanda Lehmannをギタリストとして迎えツインギターの形態となっている。ここに収録されたのは特に新しいアルバムに合わせて行うといった内容のツアーでなく、ヨーロッパのショート・ツアーのなか日。バンドのアンサンブルも完成され、分厚い音で代表曲、GENESISナンバー、そして新曲が披露されている。前半には、新しめの曲を配し、中盤以降はファンなら涙もののセットリストだ。DATテープで録音されたというオーディエンス・クオリティはもちろん問題なしの品質。タイトルにある様に、音が出なくなってしまうという珍しいトラブルがイントロからあるのだが、「すごく短い曲でした」と機転をきかすハケットになぜか会場は和やかなムード。そこを目的にこの音源を手に入れるファンはいないと思うが、これを聴いてしまうと来日を期待せずにはいられない音。途中、弟のJohnがゲストでDsc-2のJacuzziで華麗なフルートを披露。メンバーに管楽器奏者もいるのだが、さすがにレベルは弟の方が上の様。今年に入ってからは彼の代表曲とも言えるGENESISナンバーDisc-2のFirth Of Fifthは独自のアレンジは加えずオリジナルに近いアレンジで演奏されている。相変わらず彼にしか奏でられない素晴らしいギターソロとなっている。
