今回ご紹介するのは、74年7月26日に英国で発売され、全英チャート2位、全米チャートでは1位に輝いた”イッツ・オンリー・ロックン・ロール”のUSプロモ盤とUKオリジナルシングル盤です。”イッツ・オンリー・ロックン・ロール”、これぞストーンズの名実共に代名詞と言っても過言ではない一曲でしょう。
このレコーディングに参加しているのはミックとキース以外は、ギターにロニー、ドラムはケニー・ジョーンズという当時のフェイセス勢、そしてベースは名手ウィリー・ウイークスと言ったストーンズ以外のメンバーでレコーディングされたとのエピソードが有名なことでしょうか。
まずはUSプロモ盤ですが若干短めに編集された”イッツ・オンリー・ロックン・ロール”がStereo/Monoバージョンが片面ずつに収録されています。このバージョンは現在ソフト化されておらず、またMonoバージョン人気もありストーンズレーベル時代のプロモ盤の中でも人気の高いヴァイナルの1枚のようです。

一方のUK盤両面マトリックス1はコンデションが良いものは少ないので今回使用したデイスクは貴重な1枚からの音源とも言えるでしょう。このボーナスアイテムでUS盤とUK盤の”アナログサウンド”の違いがお楽しみいただける思います。またB面は長年隠れた名曲と言われたアルバム未収録曲”スルー・ザ・ロンリー・ナイツ”なのはご存知のとおりです。こちらは純正ストーンズでの録音のようです。

ボーナストラックとしてご紹介するのは76年に発売されたアルバム”ブラック・アンド・ブルー”のオープニング・ナンバーである”ホット・スタッフ”のUS プロモ7インチ盤です。”ホット・スタッフ”は”愚か者の涙”のB面曲との扱いだったようですが、実際は両A面だったようでほぼ同時に両曲がそれぞれ異なるデイスクとして、76年4月にプロモ7インチ盤の形で全米のラジオ局にそれぞれ配布されています。チャート・アクションとしては”愚か者の涙”が全米10位、全英6位のヒットとなっています。また”ホット・スタッフ”が単体で全米49位にランクインしています。ストーンズのシングル盤が両面チャート・インするのは67年の”ダンデライオン” / “この世界に愛を “のカッリング以来のようです。またこの演奏にはロニーはバック・コーラスだけでの参加となっているようです。ちなみに英国盤ではA面が愚か者の涙、B面が”クレイジー・ママ”となっています。

肝心の内容ですが”Long Version”はアルバム・バージョンと同一のようですが、”Short Version”はかなり凝った編集がなされています。わかりやすくお伝えするとすればイントロからヴォーカルの始まりにかけての部分やギター・ソロに至る部分がかなり短く編集がなされています。”Long Version”より2分近く短くの編集バージョンですので、アルバムを聴きこまれたファンには新鮮な違和感があるかもしれません。また”Long Version”よりハイファットが強調されたミックスがなされているようです。
もちろん最上級のコンディションのデイスクを使用しています！

発表から40年の時を経た”イッツ・オンリー・ロックン・ロール”と発売から38年の時を経た（笑）”ホット・スタッフ”をオリジナル7インチならでは”アナログサウンド”でお楽しみいただけると思います！
