アルバム「ASYLUM」に伴うツアーは85年11月末から翌86年4月前半まで約5ヵ月間、北米のみ91公演が行われました。彼等が素顔を晒してのノンメイクのツアーを初めて行った「LICK IT UP」、そして「ANIMALIZE」ツアーはヨーロッパツアーも組み込まれ、数多くのブートレッグタイトルがリリースされましたが、「ASYLUM」ツアーからは12月28日のシャーロットのサウンドボード、2月12日のLA公演位しか目立ったリリースが無く、ツアーのスケールの割にはやや寂しい状況が続いていました。本盤は、メタリカ、オジー・オスボーン、アイアン・メイデン、ハート、そして今週のモトリー・クルー等のZODIAC名録音盤でお馴染みの「シカゴ・テーパー」が、1986年1月17日シカゴ公演を怒涛の極上オーディエンス録音で完全収録したものです。シカゴのテーパーの録音のクオリティの高さは、過去の他アーチストの既発でご存知の通りですが、本盤もまた聴き手の期待を裏切らない、スーパー・クオリティなサウンドで80年代中期のメタル全盛期の極上ライヴを楽しむことができます。もうディスク1の前半など「これは凄い！！」と誰もが聴き入ってしまうこと間違いなしの音のクリアーさなわけですが…残念なことが一点。それはアンコールのHeaven’s On Fireでいきなりテープ劣化というかテープのむら（回転よれ）がスタートし、結構聴くのが辛い状況になっています。と言っても何を演奏しているかははっきり判りますので、これはそのまま収録していますが（マスターテープがこれなら仕方がない！）、この問題さえなかったらキッスの1986年ツアーを代表する完全無敵の傑作タイトルとなったのに残念です。テープの荒れはラストのLick It Upでも発生しており、これまた残念至極なのですが、テープがこうなっている以上、仕方ありません。しかしながらDetroit Rock CityからRock And Roll All Niteまでのメインセットの1時間20分は大袈裟ではなく、この時期のオーディエンス録音としては大別格のスーパーサウンドで楽しめますので、これは是非ともマニアにはお薦めしたいところ。何と言ってもブートレッグ初登場でこのクオリティなのですから！アンコールの12分には目をつぶって頂き、メインセットを最高のサウンドでお楽しみ頂けると幸いです（カットも考えましたが、やはりコレクターは完全収録盤で聞きたいところ…と思います）。このツアーお馴染みのDetroit Rock City、Fits Like A Glove、Cold Gin、Uh! All Night、Under The Gunと畳みかけるショウ前半は圧巻の迫力に満ちています。この頃のキッスのステージは、まさに無敵といった感じで、音だけでも凄まじいばかりの説得力を感じます。ギターソロからへヴィなI Still Love You、そしてベースソロからI Love It Loudへの流れも聴きどころです。重厚に盛り上げた後、しばし間が空き、ここでポールが「ちょっと問題が発生した」とMC。恐らくテクニカルな問題が発生したと思うのですが、そこは手慣れた感じでポールがMCで繋ぎます。意外に間はそれ程開かず、ここでシングルヒット曲Tears Are Fallingが演奏されます。故エリック・カーのドラムソロは、お馴染みのジーンのベースとのインストプレイに繋がり、そのままドラマチックなWar Machineへ。メインセットの締めはLove GunとRock And Roll All Niteで場内の盛り上がりも含め素晴らしくエキサイトした演奏を楽しむことができます。
