さて、それほどまでに凄まじい本作に収められているのは、「1986年５月22日カンザス・シティ公演」と、翌日「５月23日セント・ルイス公演」。オフィシャルの「PRIEST… LIVE!」と同じツアーなわけですが、あちらは「６月15日＆27日」収録ですので、１テイクも被っていません。そのサウンドやミックスは、完璧そのもの。ケチの付けようが一切なく、「オフィシャル・リリース可能」に”当然”がオマケが付くハイクオリティ・サウンドです。「オフィシャル可能って言われても、当のオフィシャルがあるじゃない」と思われるのも、これまた当然なのですが、本作はその公式盤さえも越えている！
ここからは、「PRIEST… LIVE!」の苦言を少々（お好きな方、申し訳ありません）。かの公式盤は「PRIEST IN THE EAST」や1982年のビデオとの被りを避けたかったのかも知れませんが、「Desert Plains」「Victim Of Changes」「Green Manalishi」「Hell Bent For Leather」がカット。結果、収録曲が妙に偏っていて流れも不自然でした。その後、2001年に増補版も出ましたが、これは正直言って酷い。丸っきり違う時代の曲が最後に追加され、ライヴの流れを再現するどころか、余計にぶち壊してしまっている。ラストの「Hell Bent for Leather」は良いにしても、なぜ「You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’」の後に「Screaming for Vengeance」「Rock Hard, Ride Free」が!?!?　人気の名曲だから追加したのでしょうが、丸っきり違う時期の録音ではノリもサウンドも違和感満点。その上、全体的にやたらと行儀の良いサウンドに仕上げられており、わざとらしい大歓声のオーバーダブ。当時から「なぜ”FUEL FOR LIFE TOUR 1986”でライヴ盤を作ったんだ!?」と言われていましたが、それ以前に１本のライヴ盤として、到底納得できない仕上がりだったのです。これでは、真価がまるで伝わってこない……。
そう、「PRIEST… LIVE!」では、「TURBOか……」を覆すには荷が勝ちすぎているのです。その判断をしていただくのは、本作を聴いてからにしていただきたいっ！
実際、「PRIEST… LIVE!」に対して、本作は紛れもない「生」そのもの。完璧なサウンド・クオリティであっても生々しさは抜群で、わざとらしく増幅された歓声もなければノリも自然。もちろん、ライヴそのままのフルセット収録です。これでこそ、”FUEL FOR LIFE TOUR 1986”の真価も伝わってくるというもの。実験作・冒険作を発表するたび「でも、ライヴはいつでも凄い」と言われ続けたPRIESTですが、バンド史上最大の問題作と言われた「TURBO」においても、その法則は微塵も崩れていないことがハッキリと分かります。
荘厳な「Out In The Cold」や哀愁とポップさを伴って走る「Locked In」はもちろんのこと、「TURBO」では甘ったるく聞こえた楽曲も、メロディの美しさや会場を盛り上げるノリの良さがダイレクトです。電波の向こうにいる数百万人に向け、ラジオ・フレンドリーに仕上げたスタジオ・アルバムとは違い、ライヴでは目の前にいるメタル・マニアクスのために、見事な”PRIEST METAL”に仕上げている！　「Private Property」の”Hands off!!”や、「Rock You All Around The World」の”Rock you all around the world!!”など、大合唱を誘うビッグ・メタル。そう、JUDAS PRIESTの”ポップ”とは、ライヴでの”ノセる曲”のこと。大代表曲「Living After Midnight」「You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’」を思い出していただければ、分かっていただけるでしょう。全世界的にメタルが盛り上がりまくり、大観衆で一体感を満喫するライヴ。80年代中期にしかあり得なかったメタルがたっぷりと詰まっているのです！

この２公演は2008年に突如登場し、メタルフリークに衝撃を与えた音源。当時は、先に発掘されたセント・ルイス公演だけを「MIDNIGHT EXPLOSION」としてプレスしましたが、直後にカンザス・シティ公演も登場しました。当時は、「TURBO」の問題作イメージが根強いなか、２本連続のプレス化は難しく、カンザス・シティ公演だけはCDRリリースとなってしまいました。しかし、それから７年。やはり、この２公演を超える音源は出てこなかった。今回は、スーパーサウンドながら、わずかに各楽器の分離が今いちだった中音域を最新リマスタリングで整理し、統一感を持たせた４枚組プレスCDに仕上げました。
そもそもスタジオ作「TURBO」は、ポップな曲とハードな曲の両方を集めた「TWIN TURBOS」なる２枚組アルバムになるはずでした。ポップな曲が真の姿を現し、伝統の名曲と違和感なく共存する本作、オフィシャル「PRIEST… LIVE!」を超え、1986年の真実に迫る本作に、これ以上相応しいタイトルはないでしょう。
この後、彼らはよりハード、よりヘヴィを標榜し、「ビッグなノリ」にこだわることはなくなりました。本作は、”究極的に音の良いライヴ盤”であるばかりか、「ビッグでメロディアスなメタルの究極形」をたっぷりと封入し、「PRIESTのポピュラリティとは何だったのか」にまで迫る１本です。他に替えの効かないサウンドと曲を胸いっぱいに味わい尽くす４枚組、プレスCDであなたの元に！
