東日本大震災の悲劇から５年、ついに実現した８年ぶりの来日公演！　その第一報が早くも到着しました!!　今回の来日公演は珍しい両国国技館での２日間だけでしたが、本作が記録されたのは、その初日。「2016年４月20日」公演のフル・オーディエンス・アルバムです。
本作を手がけた録音家は、東京・神奈川で名作を連発している名人テーパー。その彼をしても両国国技館は初めてのチャレンジだったようですが、とても初めてとは思えない素晴らしいサウンドの逸品を届けてくださいました。もちろん、ネットにも登場していない完全初公開のオリジナル・マスターです。
実際、本作から流れ出るサウンドは、日本人ならではの繊細さも麗しい。現場で猛烈な大合唱を味わった方も多いと思いますが、本作は臨場感もたっぷりながら、ド真ん中に楽音がデン！とそそり立つ。何者にも邪魔されることなくブルース・ディッキンソンの雄々しい歌声が轟き、トリプル・ギターの艶やかな響きも美しい名録音です。今回の“THE BOOK OF SOULS WORLD TOUR 2016”は全世界的に客席録音の不作が嘆かれていますが、日本第一報にして世界中のコレクターのタメ息が聞こえてくるようです。
ただし、ネット上でも話題になっているように初日はPAのバランスが万全とは言えなかった。本作でも会場の反響が理想的とまではいかず、ややベースが引っ込んでいる。テーパー側が最善を尽くしているのは間違いなく、恐らく本作以上のサウンドはほぼ不可能だと思いますが、もう少しバキバキ感が伝われば堂々とプレス化できたのに……（IRON MAIDENですから、やっぱりベース・サウンドは譲れないのです）。ともあれ、それこれも非常に高度な次元の話。通常「オーディエンス録音」の言葉からイメージされるサウンドよりもきめ細かく豊かなサウンドで日本公演がたっぷりと味わえる事には違いありません。
そして、日本初日だからこそ、オーディエンス録音だからこその美味しいポイントは２つ。１つは大合唱。東日本大震災によって幻と消えた2011年の雪辱から５年、溜まりに溜まった日本オーディエンスの歌いっぷりは最高！　お馴染みのクラシック名曲群はもちろんのこと、新曲でも歌う歌う!!　特に凄いのは13分超の大曲「The Red And The Black」。「歌え！」と言わんばかりのシンガロングの唱和の大波は、武道館かさいたまスーパーアリーナかと錯覚するかのような大スペクタクル。それだけの大合唱なのが伝わりながら、ディッキンソンの声や楽音のダイレクト感が些かも損なわれないのだから凄い。やはり、名手の録音は違う……。もちろん、ショウ後半の代表曲ラッシュは一層熱く燃え上がり、最後の最後まで、“待ちに待ったIRON MAIDEN”に対面している悦びがスピーカーから吹き出すのです。
