まさかの再来日決定でファンを驚喜させてくれているエリック・クラプトンの極上音源を、今回の来日を記念してオリジナルマスターからリリースします！本盤は、過去に当店からボーナスアイテムとしてCDRでリリースされたソースを収録していますが、今回、プレスディスクでのリリースにあたり、マスターからそのままの収録ではなく、散見ノイズを除去し、サウンド自体もナチュラルさを残したままグレードアップを図ったアルティメット・バージョンとしています。元々高音質なマスターでしたが、僅かにほやけ気味だった楽音に芯が通ったようになり、ダイナミックレンジが拡がりました。ボーナスアイテムとしてもお楽しみいただけたと思いますが、この機会にこの優れた音質、内容の公演を是非プレスのディスクでお持ちいただければと思います。このツアーの醍醐味は、翌年以降通例となった女性ボーカルを擁しておらず、ギター2本、キーボードとリズムセクションの男5人というコアな編成で行なわれたことです。それだけにクラプトンのプレイが際立ったツアーとも言え、ブルースとロックナンバー、バラードがバランスよく組まれた内容が非常に魅力的なツアーであり、単公演で20曲もプレイした精力的なツアーだったと言えます。また、この日の公演の特徴としまして、Got My Mojo WorkingとHoochie Coochie Manでは本ツアーで初めてスライドプレイで通したということがありました。また、この日には前日公演ではカットされたロバート・ジョンソンのKind Hearted Womanが復活しました。さらには、Badgeでノイズの発生したアンプをクラプトンがローディーに伝え交換するというアクシデントもありましたが、そのあたりを聴き込んでみていただくのも一興でしょう。ステージの構成面では、まずクラプトン一人が登場し、翌年のロバート・ジョンソン・プロジェクトで発表することになるWhen You Got A Good Friend をプレイし始めるのですが、この曲の中盤からバンドメンバーがスタンバイして、弾き語りから一気にバンドサウンドへと変貌させます。その間にクラプトンはマーティンをギターテックに渡し、代わりにクラッシュ3号機と呼ばれたペインテッド・ストラトを受け取ります。そしてエレクトリック・バージョンとしてCrossroads にメドレーするという絶妙な構成でコンサートをスタートさせたのでした。これ一発でオーディエンスのハートを掴んだ様子が捉えられています。この曲以降、I Shot The Sheriffでも弾きまくりで盛り上げた後は、引き続きBell Bottom Bluesもエレクトリック・バージョンで披露。エレクトリックでこの曲が演奏されたのは、1975年の大阪公演以来28年ぶりのことでした。そして中盤のアコースティックナンバーChange The Worldでは、マーティンが新たに開発したクラプトンモデル000-ECHF「ベレッツァ・ネラ」を初披露。ブラックボディが美しいマーティンでした。後半は主に自身のロックナンバーを畳みかける形でオーディエンスを魅了し、アンコールでは前回ツアーと同じく、彼が幼少時代から親しんだ映画のテーマ曲Somewhere Over The RainbowをギブソンL-5で優しくプレイして終了。非常によく練られたセットリストを円熟のプレイで完奏したステージでした。このツアーからクラプトンはJBLの最新式サウンドシステム「VERTEC」を導入しました。ホールの天井から吊るされた大型のスピーカー群に目を奪われたことを記憶されている方も多いでしょう。その大迫力のサウンドがここに捉えられています。この日の最良マスターと言っても過言ではないプレスディスクの本盤を是非この機会にコレクションに加えてください。
