久々のエリック・クラプトンの極上音源、当店オリジナルマスターのリリースです！本盤は、1986年にクラプトンが実施した短期ヨーロッパ・サマーフェスティバル・ツアーの千秋楽となったイギリス、バーミンガム2DAYS公演の、イギリス在住のテーパーから直に入手した完全収録のステレオ・オーディエンスマスターを収録しています。このテーパーが当時、両公演の会場にて自らレコーダーを回した、正真正銘のオリジナルマスターです。今回それを当店が独占入手。2日目の7月15日公演については、オフィシャル映像作品「Eric Clapton and Friends Live 1986」をはじめ、様々なフォーマットでこの日のステレオ・サウンドボード録音のライブテイクがリリースされているほか、その元となった完全収録の流出マスターから制作されたプレスタイトルが過去にリリースされていました。しかし今回当店がリリースしますのは、極上音質と断言できるステレオ・オーディエンスマスターなのです。クリアネス、サウンドバランス、オンな音像、どれをとっても最高クラスのクオリティを誇ります。15日の音源につきましては、サウンドボードソースでは知ることのできなかった当日のムード、どの曲のどの部分で盛り上がり、どのように進行していったのかという臨場感が手に取るように分かります。まさに有名なこの会場、ナショナル・エキシビション・センターにタイムスリップした感覚が味わっていただけます。2日目のMiss Youの5:31時点、Layla の8:55時点にはテープチェンジ箇所がありましたが、楽曲には支障のない曲間部分でしたので、それを当店が自然に繋いでいます。そして何よりも貴重なのは、その前日の初日公演が、2日目と同様のクリアで抜群のサウンドバランスを誇る音質で聴けることでしょう。初日の音源は、これまで恐らくテーパーからコピーを譲り受けた友人による私製のCDRブートレッグがヨーロッパのごく僅かなエリアに流通していたに過ぎませんでしたが、それが遂に日本のファンにも聴いていただけるのです。しかもマスターコピーではなく、堂々のファーストジェネレーション・マスターでお届けします！セットリストは両日とも同じですが、ファンならばご存知のように、このツアーはアルバム「AUGUST」のレコーディング終了後、まだリリース前の時期にプロデューサーでもあったドラマー兼ボーカリストのフィル・コリンズを含む新メンバーで意気揚々と乗り出したツアーでした。それだけにリリース前の「AUGUST」収録ナンバーを逸早く聴かせたいというバンドの情熱がストレートに溢れ出たステージパフォーマンスとなっています。クラプトンがリスペクトを払い、In The Air Tonightでコリンズもフィーチャーされていますが、2日間、全編のどこを取り出してもキレキレのプレイが飛び出してきます。それもそのはず、現在に至るまでクラプトンが全幅の信頼を寄せる黒人セッションマン、ネイザン・イーストとグレッグ・フィリンゲインズが起用された初めてのツアーであり、「AUGUST」そのままの研ぎ澄まされた彼らのスキルが全開となっているのです。彼らの手にかかれば、むしろクラプトンの方が影響を受けていたことがありありで、Crossroads、White Room、I Shot The Sheriff、Badge、Let It Rain、CocaineそしてLaylaといった従来の代表曲が前年ツアーとはまったく違った表情を見せていることがお判りいただけるでしょう。これを表現するならば、クラプトンが彼らの影響を受け、当時流行っていたフュージョンに最も近づいたサウンド・プロダクションだったと言えます。それも白人のそれではなく、「ブラックコンテンポラリー」テイストなのです。その典型が、長尺バージョンとなって、イーストがベースソロとスキャットを、フィリンゲインズがシンセソロを披露するSame Old Bluesのアレンジでしょう。今では賛否両論がある時期ではありますが、コリンズらのサポートのおかげで「弾き捲り」の極致となった、後の「ジャーニーマン・ツアー」の布石はここにあったと見るべきでしょう。ギターの方も、クラプトンは新たにフェンダー社が「ブラッキー」のスペックを基に製作して彼に提供した、後のシグネイチャーモデルのプロトタイプ・ストラト（フェラーリ・レッド・フィニッシュ）を使用しており、そのトーンはまさにこのサウンド・アレンジとマッチしたシャープでブライトなものとなっています。2日目公演のアンコールには、オープニング・アクトを務めたロバート・クレイが飛入りし、クラプトンとのギターバトルを展開しているというトピックもあります（クレイの起用はクラプトンのご指名でした）。「レイドバック」を合言葉に70年代を乗り切ってきたクラプトンが劇的な変化を見せた86年。それをリアルに伝える極上音源が28年の眠りから今、解き放たれます！これを聴かずしてクラプトンの80年代は語れません。プレスCDによる限定リリースとなりますので、どうぞお早めのオーダーをお願い致します。
