Recorded Oakland performances from North American tour accompanying the release of solo album “On An Island”. The sound source that mixes two types of high-quality audience sound source that is one of the best in this tour is used. From Gilmour’s Floyd in 1994, which was full of imagination due to excessive production, we removed the stage production including female chorus and round screen, and faced in a genuine band style with minimal members like the old Floyd, It was a feature of this tour. Gilmour’s Floyd has been exposed to the verification of the times, and it is weathering, but Gilmour’s “On An Island”, which has boldly launched a new innovation without relying on big names, is counted as a masterpiece of rock since Millennium. If you like the “A Pillow Of Winds” type song from Floyd’s album “Meddle”, you should be able to understand the charm of this album including “On An Island” without much to talk about.
In addition, “Firenze 2006” with Firenze performances from the European tour was attached as a bonus to this edition. There are many interesting scenes, although there are many images of hand shake, especially in the intro of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”, “Wine Glasses (From ‘Household Objects’ Project)” recorded in the newly released version “Wish You Were Here” released the other day It is valuable to be able to see the scene being reproduced on the stage. In addition, the stage lights in the “Echoes” interlude part all fall, but without being interrupted, I am impressed with the sincere attitude of Gilmour who continues to lead the band. It’s a shame that both the main CD and DVD have already disappeared from the store.

ソロアルバム『On An Island』リリースに伴う北米ツアーから、Oakland公演を収録。当ツアー屈指の2種類の高音質オーディエンス音源をミックスした音源が使用されている。過剰な演出による虚飾に満ち溢れた1994年のGilmour’s Floydから、女性コーラスと円形スクリーンを含むステージ演出を排除し、旧来のFloydのように最小限のメンバーによる正真正銘のバンドスタイルで臨んだのが、このツアーの特色だった。Gilmour’s Floydは時代の検証に曝されて風化しつつあるが、ビッグネームに頼らずに果敢にも新機軸を打ち出したGilmourの『On An Island』は、ミレニアム以降のロックの名盤と数えられる。Floydのアルバム『Meddle』収録の「A Pillow Of Winds」タイプの楽曲が好きな方には、『On An Island』を含む本盤の魅力は多くを語らずとも理解いただけるはずだ。
なお本盤には特典として、欧州ツアーからFirenze公演を収録した『Firenze 2006』が添付された。手振れの多い映像ながらも興味深いシーンが多く、特に「Shine On You Crazy Diamond」のイントロでは、先日リリースされた新装版『Wish You Were Here』収録の「Wine Glasses (From ‘Household Objects’ Project)」をステージ上で再現しているシーンを見ることができるのが貴重。また「Echoes」の間奏部でステージの照明がすべて落ちてしまうものの、演奏を中断することなく、バンドをリードし続けるGilmourのひた向きで真摯な姿勢に感銘を受ける。本編のCDおよびDVDともに、すでに店頭から姿を消してしまったのが実に惜しい。
