ラハヴが在籍していた半年の間でも、74年と75年でその内容がはっきりと違うのが大きな魅力なのですが、このタワー・シアターではE・ストリート・バンドがこの布陣となって初めてBorn To Runが演奏されるという、超レアな一日となりました。つまり、あの名曲Born To Runの初期バージョンということになります。もちろんこの曲は74年前半の段階で数回ほど試験的に演奏されており、前のメンバーによるE・ストリート・バンドでスタジオ録音も終えていたのですが、何しろ曲がリリースされるのはずっと先（75年8月）ということで、この日に限ってメンバー・チェンジしたE・ストリート・バンドで試験投入したのでしょう。しかも地元ニュージャージーに次いで熱狂的なファンが多かったフィラデルフィアということがスプリングスティーンにリリース前の新曲を演奏したいという気持ちにさせたとも考えられます。
この日の目玉とも言えるその演奏が実に初々しい！現在に至るまで、毎晩のライブで演奏されないということが無いBorn To Runですが、ここではスプリングスティーンの歌のアレンジがまったく固まっておらず、そのラフで自由な歌い方には本当に驚かされます。これほどの代表曲をおっかなびっくりな調子で演奏していたことに感動を覚えずにはいられません。
そしてラハヴのバイオリンが加わった時期のステージということで、オープニングのIncident On 57th Streetから彼女の存在感は絶大。美しいバイオリンはもちろんですが、清らかな歌声でスプリングスティーンとのハーモニーを聞かせてくれます。彼女のプレイや歌声はこれまた新曲だったJunglelandでも大活躍していますが、意外なところではSandyでの美しいバックコーラス、これには思わず耳を奪われてしまうはず。そしてソウル・カバーのSpanish Harlemという素晴らしい演奏もあり、昨年JEMSによって発掘された驚きの音源が遂にプレスのディスクによってリリースが実現します。モノラル録音のオーディエンス録音ですが、演奏のバランスよく、その上で程よい距離感を保った状態はまさに理想的。しかし、当時のカセット録音にはありがちなことですが、元の音源ではピッチが徐々に上昇してしまいます。今回のリリースはその狂いを完璧にアジャスト。貴重な演奏と良好な音質なだけでなく、安定した再生であの名曲Born To Run眩しいまでの初期の姿をじっくりと堪能ください！
