先頃、時期を同じくしてジャパン・ツアーを行なったボブ・ディランとエリック・クラプトン。残念ながら日本での二人の共演は実現しませんでしたが、ここに貴重な二人のスタジオ共演セッションのオリジナル・マスターソースをお届けします！1986年、渡英していたディランが突如思い立って敢行した、彼主演の映画「HEARTS OF FIRE」のサウンドトラック・レコーディング・セッションの全貌です。今回、当店はイギリス在住の重鎮テーパーからこの音源のマスターリールからダイレクトにデジタルコピーしたDATを入手しました。このセッションの音源は過去にリリースされたことがありますが、時代的にそれはカセットテープ・マスターでした。そのためカセットテープ特有のヒスノイズが全編を覆っていたものです。本盤をお聴きいただきますと、演奏を始める各曲前の無音部分には、既発盤で聞かれたヒスノイズがまったく入っておりません。さすが、デジタル直落としのマスターと言えましょう。収録曲数は既発盤と変わりませんが、オフィシャル級と言えるこのクリアな音質で聴く本セッションの生々しさは既発盤では味わえないものと断言できます。このセッションは1986年8月27日、28日の両日において、プロデュースとエンジニアリングをボー・ヒルが手掛け、ロンドンのタウンハウス・スタジオにて行なわれました。クラプトン談によると、「突然ボブから電話がかかってきて、レコーディングに参加してほしいと言われたんだ。」とのことで、セッションの数日前のことだったそうです。いきなりの呼び出しにも馳せ参じるとろこがボブを信奉する友情に厚いクラプトンらしいところだと言えるでしょう。しかも同じ事情でベーシストの手配がなかなかつかず、たまたまスケジュールの空いていたロニー・ウッドがベースで呼ばれることになったというのも驚くべき事実でした。彼がベースをプレイするのは、60年代後半のジェフ・ベック・グループ以来のことでした。さらに彼とクラプトンとのスタジオ共演となると、1976年のクラプトンのアルバム「NO REASON TO CRY」のレコーディング・セッション以来でした。そしてドラムには、当時イギリスでセッション・ドラマーの第一人者となっていたヘンリー・スピネッティが呼ばれました。スピネッティは、先のクラプトンのジャパン・ツアー・バンドのメンバーでもあったことはファンの方なら周知のことでしょう。こうした大物実力者を電話一本で呼びつけて実現したのがこのセッションだったわけです。全テイクともメンバー全員による完奏テイクばかりで、聴きごたえがあります。初期段階の拙いテイクから演奏を重ねるごとに完成度が高まっていく様子、Had A Dream About You, Babyにおいては、リズムパターンをコロコロ変えて取り組んでいるディランの試行錯誤ぶりも伺うことができます。ギターはディランとクラプトンの二人だけによるものなので、容易に聴き分けができます。さすが、と思わせるのは、実に的確に曲を盛り上げるクラプトンのシャープなオブリガートでしょう。ロニーのベースもさすがギタリストだけに、見事に歌心のあるベースラインを弾き出しています。このセッション音源史上最高音質でお届けする、永久保存のプレスCDが本盤です。ディランファン、クラプトンファンの方々のみならず、ストーンズファンの方にも聴いていただきたい価値あるタイトルの限定リリースとなります。どうぞお見逃しなく。
