人気の高いボブ・ディランの1988年ツアーからの極上音源と言うことで大好評となりました「EAST TROY 1988」以来の88年ライブ音源がリリースされます。「EAST TROY」はツアー前半の模様を捉えていたのに対し、今回は10月13日のアッパー・ダービーで行われたライブを収録しています。しかし88年ツアーにおける最終日程の初日となっただけでなく、地名だけでなく奇しくも非常にアッパーなテンションのライブが繰り広げられたのだから聞き逃せません。元々88年ツアーはGE・スミスを中心としたシンプルでハードな演奏が身上のバンドによってテンションの高い演奏が一年を通して繰り広げられたのですが、10月にもなるとディランは最後の力を振り絞るどころか、さらなるエナジーをライブに注入して凄まじいステージを繰り広げました。
　実際にこの日のライブを聴いてみましょう。一年を通して不動のオープニング・ナンバーとなった「Subterranean Homesick Blues」から既にディランもバンドも全開のパワーで挑んでいる様子がはっきりと伝わってきます。それにしてもディランの歌は激しいテンションが圧巻で、この後もガンガン押しまくるようなシャウトを聴かせてくれました。6月からアメリカ中を回ったツアーの終盤とはとても思えません。そんな文字通りアッパーなテンションの中で演奏がどんどん進みます（各曲のコンパクトな演奏の聴きやすさも88年の魅力でしょう）。
そんなツアー終盤に初めてライブ・レパートリーとして導入されたのが「Bob Dylan’s 115th Dream」。アルバム「BRINGING IT ALL BACK HOME」に収録されていたテンポの速いフォークロックでしたが、それを88年バンドはここでもアッパーで超ハードなナンバーに料理してみせました。そのストレートでパワフルな演奏、さらにディランの全開シャウトあまりの迫力の前に呆然としてしまうかもしれません。それほど押せ押せな演奏は中間にディランとGE二人のアコースティック・セットを挟んだメリハリに富んだ構成の魅力もたっぷり。そのパートを締めくくる「Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door」がディランを中心としたアコースティックな雰囲気で始まるも、クリストファー・パーカーのドラムが入るやいなやワイルドな演奏に豹変する展開がまた秀逸。そこから終盤へと一気に畳み込むようなライブには、改めて88年ツアーの素晴らしさを実感されることでしょう。
そんな10月に関してはツアー最終日となった19日のニューヨーク公演の流出サウンドボード録音がマニアに知られているものの、クリアネスと臨場感を欠いた状態故にあまり評価は高くない音源でした。今回の音源はその点オーディエンス録音ながら抜群のクリアネスと見通しの良さ、さらにはきめの細かい鮮度を誇る秀逸な状態です。その音質は聴いていただければ納得の極上録音。もちろんオンな音圧も見事であり、今までこんな優良音源がリリースされてこなかったことが不思議に思えるほど素晴らしい音質なのです。そして全編を通した超アッパー・テンションな演奏となれば文句なしに限定のプレスCDにてリリースが決定しました。88年ツアーの新たなスタンダード・タイトルがここに誕生します！
