本作のウリは、何と言っても収録時間の長さで、再生直後から本編のサウンドボード音源との違いは明らか。本編プレスCDでは、スタジオアルバム「HEADLESS CROSS」と同じく「The Gates Of Hell」から始まりましたが、本作ではその前に流れる「Ave Satani」から収録。テーパーのセッティングが終わっていなかったのか、ゴソゴソとマイクをいじるようなノイズが入ったり、音質が変わる箇所もありますが、それも２曲目の「Neon Knights」の中盤まで。こうした欠点があるため「プレスできる」とは言えないのですが、その後はグッと安定し、傑作録音ぞろいの「HEADLESS CROSS TOUR 1989」でも屈指のオーディエンス・サウンドで“コージー入り”のアンサンブルが楽しめるのです。
もちろん、冒頭「Ave Satani」は単なる前振りでしかなく、ショウの中盤こそが聴きどころ。本編プレスCDではカットされていた「The Shining」「The Mob Rules」「Black Sabbath」「Devil & Daughter」の４曲がたっぷり聴けるのです。残念ながら「The Shining」の中間部でテープチェンジのカットがあるので完全収録とはいきませんが、それもわずか。ほぼ全曲を楽しむことができる。その「The Shining」の前には、トニー・マーティンが「秘密のことを教えよう。今日のショウは“RADIO 1”で録音されてるぜ！」とMC。一気に会場中が沸騰する様子も超リアルです。
そんな中でも、特に嬉しいのが「Devil & Daughter」。「HEADLESS CROSS TOUR 1989」はサウンドボードに恵まれ、本編プレスCDはもちろんのこと「STILL HEADLESS」や「HEADLESS IN VIENNA」、プロショット「HEADLESS RUSSIA」と、数々のタイトルが発掘されてきましたが、「Devil & Daughter」はそのどれにも収録されず、その後のツアーでも演奏されていない。シングルカットもされた名曲でありながら、オーディエンス録音でしか聴けないレアな１曲なのです。

ロック史に刻まれる名作ライヴ盤は、その裏側までもが気になるもの。そして、本編プレスCDの「MANCHESTER 1989 PRE-FM MASTER」は、音良し・歌良し・演奏良しの大傑作。オフィシャル・リリースでこそないものの、名盤中の名盤として末永く愛されることは決まったようなものです。本作は、その名作に収められた名演の真実の姿をハイクオリティな本生100％サウンドで楽しめる。普通にライヴアルバムとして聴いてもカッコ良く、放送局の編集の意図や妙味など、制作の裏側を探っても楽しい１本。ぜひ、本編プレスCDと併せてお楽しみください!!
